We are providing the following information in response to an e-mail sent out by the Chiba Prefectural Police Headquarters regarding a phone deception scam.

A scam in which a person pretending to be a police officer calls your cell phone with a "blocked number" and directs you to a fake website of the Metropolitan Police Department to cheat you out of money has been reported in the prefecture.
The M.O. is that the perpetrator will say, "There is a warrant for your arrest as an accomplice in a fraud. You can check the arrest warrant on the Metropolitan Police Department's website.
The perpetrator then says, "You have a warrant for your arrest as an accomplice to the fraud, and you can check it on the Metropolitan Police Department website. They then asked for your account information, saying something like, "We need to check the money in your account to make sure you are not involved in the case." or something like that to get the account information or to get you to transfer money to the account to defraud you.

In order to avoid becoming a victim,
1. do not answer cell phone numbers that are blocked or unknown to you
2. if you receive a call saying that you are a victim of an incident, please consult the police immediately
