Assister Success Stories in Action

The role of assisters like you in the Marketplace and in the lives of consumers makes an undeniable difference. The work you do to ensure healthy lives for Americans is priceless, and can be shown by the story of Martin Martinez, a consumer from California.

Martin became injured while working on a farm in 2006. His undocumented status meant he couldn’t enroll in coverage through Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program. Martin tried to wait until his injury healed on its own, which eventually escalated to excruciating pain.

As the years went by, California steadily removed immigration status as a barrier to enrolling in Medi-Cal health coverage, and in January 2024 the program was opened to all low-income Californians regardless of citizenship status.

Martin found out about the Coalition of Orange County Community Health Centers, an assister organization, after he sought help at one of the organization’s member clinics. Through the help of a navigator at the coalition, he was able to enroll in Medi-Cal and undergo a full knee joint replacement, supplemented by physical therapy.

The work of assisters like you has inspired many stories like Martin’s. To view more assister success stories, visit this page [ https://content.govdelivery.com/landing_pages/46161/89f8f9dab5cc6db7e590da9b36fed314 ]. You can also read more about Martin’s story below.
