On September 27 last year, the doors of the Metropolitan Opera reopened after being closed for a year and a half. The Japan Club also resumed its annual popular Opera Appreciation ＆ Study Session, co-hosted by Ms. Sumiko Ito ）, representative of （ "Let's Explore the Pleasures of Opera ！," and the first session was held on November 21 last year, with a performance of Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" and the second was held on March 6 this year, with a performance of Verdi's "Don Quixote" on March 6. The second one was "Don ・ Carlos" by Verdi on March 6 this year, and was well received by all who attended.

The third viewing of the season will be held on Tuesday, May 17 （ ） and will feature "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti. This opera from the bel canto period immortalized Donizetti. It depicts the tragedy of lovers torn apart by a political marriage, and is famous for the "mad scene" in which Lucia, the heroine who has lost her mind, sings endlessly.

Then, on Monday （ the 16th ） 6 ～ 8 p.m., the day before the viewing, a study session will be held with the founder group members as lecturers, as a social gathering for the viewing participants. Participation in the study session is optional. Also, everyone is welcome to attend, not only the participants of the viewing party. The more you prepare for the opera, the more you will enjoy it. Tickets are available at approximately 2 discounts, Grand ・ Tier seats （ 2nd floor ）. will be available. From here you will have a good view of the entire stage, close proximity to the singers, and excellent acoustics. The deadline for submissions is approximately one month before the performance. Seats are limited, so please register as soon as possible.

- 3rd "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Donizetti

Bel canto ・ This is one of the most famous operas. The highlight of the opera is the scene in which Lucia （, the soprano ） forced into a marriage she does not like, goes crazy at the wedding. Young star singer Nadine ・ Sierra takes on the difficult role. And Javier ・ Camarena, with his velvety high notes, will play the role of Lucia's lover Edgardo. We are also looking forward to seeing what Simon ・ Stone, an up-and-coming prodigy making his Met debut, has in store for us.

*The last minute study session is open to anyone who is interested in "Lucia di Lammermoor", not limited to participants of the viewing party. The last minute study session will be held in a room at the Nippon Club Hall, but will be held with due care to prevent infection.
