**Senior Idol Showcase Performance Date Change**

 



*17th Annual Las Vegas Senior Idol Showcase*

"The showcase was previously scheduled for Oct. 3, 2024, but has been moved due to a scheduling conflict. We apologize to all for any inconvenience."

 

Residents of all ages are invited to the 17th annual Las Vegas Senior Idol Showcase! 

 

Showcase tickets sell out every year for the single performance. Updated general admission tickets, priced at $5, will be on sale starting Nov. 1, 2024, at all city of Las Vegas active adult centers Monday-Friday, including:


* Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, 702.229.1702.
* Doolittle Active Adult Center, 1930 N. J St., 702.229.6125.
* East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave., 702.229.1515.
* Lieburn Active Adult Center, 6230 Garwood Ave., 702.229.1600.

Those who have already purchased tickets for the Oct. 3, 2024, performance should contact the East Las Vegas Community Center at 702.229.1515 for a refund or replacement tickets.

 

Veteran television news and talk show personality David Riggleman will be master of ceremonies. Individuals and groups ages 50 and older will perform in four categories: vocals, dance, musical instruments and comedy. Garden Beds Available Through Feb. 28

 

Come enjoy our community gardens where we strengthen community ties by offering each member access to our garden beds and a communal garden area during business hours. A master gardener is available on designated days to support sustainable practices and collaborative gardening.

Please join us to celebrate our Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs' 75th Anniversary (1949 – 2024)! Gather your friends and family to enjoy a showcase of local talent, performances from recreation and cultural centers and interactive activities for all ages, including a "Community Art Activation" project. There will be free seedlings for the first 200 attendees and a community planting event to help beautify the park. Light refreshments will be provided and food trucks will be onsite, available for purchase. 

 

Our annual Disability Awareness Day celebration will also be part of the event. Held at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza, 720 Twin Lakes Drive, the event is free to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature a free vaccine clinic, live entertainment, door prizes, free parking and plenty of information and contacts. A free lunch also will be provided for the first 250 participants. Representatives from more than 30 organizations serving the disabled community will be present to help attendees with employment, independent living, recreational activities, financial planning, legal services, benefits counseling, adaptive equipment, transportation, housing and more. There will be opportunities to meet elected officials. American Sign Language interpreters will be available. The event is sponsored by the city of Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Center for Independent Living and The Challenger newspaper.

Book Festival - Senior

The Las Vegas Book Festival, now in its 23rd year, returns to downtown Las Vegas with headliners John Waters, Tracy Wolff and Nicola Yoon.

 

John Waters has been in the entertainment industry for over 50 years. His works include “Pink Flamingos,” “Hairspray,” “Cry-Baby” and his most recent book, “Liarmouth.” He is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

 

“Crave” series author Tracy Wolff has written more than 70 novels. Her dark, action-packed, romantic stories feature tortured heroes and kick-butt heroines. The bestselling author is also a lover of vampires, dragons and all things that go bump in the night.

 

National Book Award finalist Nicola Yoon is the first Black woman to reach No. 1 on the “New York Times Young Adult Best Seller” list. The bestselling author’s works include “Instructions for Dancing,” “Everything, Everything” and “The Sun Is Also A Star.” Two of her novels have been made into major motion pictures.

 

A schedule of activities that includes panel discussions, book signings, workshops and arts and crafts for children will be shared closer to the event.

 

The Las Vegas Book Festival is the largest literary event in Nevada, produced by the city of Las Vegas and Nevada Humanities, along with many sponsors and supporters including News 3, Audacy Radio, Las Vegas Review-Journal/Las Vegas Sun, NV Energy, The Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, Spread the Word Nevada, Nevada Center for the Book and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
