Housing-Related Code Amendments Update

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the ongoing City of Bellevue housing-related code updates projects so far.

The City is currently working on two code amendments that aim to encourage more housing development.

We are excited to share a new website with more information about our planning efforts and an interactive component that allows the community to share feedback. Check out the Housing Related Code Amendments [ https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/049bad6a7ba944ae9d5692ea7a3f3400?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] site to explore details, input opportunities and the schedules for the code amendments.

Below is a short update on how the community can get involved with the Middle Housing [ https://bellevuewa.gov/code-amendments/middle-housing-code-amendments?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and HOMA [ https://bellevuewa.gov/HOMA?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] (Housing Opportunities in Mixed-Use Areas) code update projects.

Middle Housing

In November and December, the City hosted three sessions to introduce the Middle Housing Project [ https://bellevuewa.gov/code-amendments/middle-housing-code-amendments?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and answer questions. More sessions are planned for February and March when the draft code will be ready. Those dates will be shared soon and available on the project webpage.

How to get involved and learn more

* Please fill out the Middle Housing Questionnaire to provide input. The City would like to hear from the community about where housing increases are wanted and needed. Access the questionnaire on the new Housing Related Code Amendments [ https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/049bad6a7ba944ae9d5692ea7a3f3400?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] interactive site.
* On Jan. 22, the Planning Commission [ https://bellevuewa.gov/city-government/departments/community-development/planning-commission?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] will discuss some of the proposed code changes. This is a public meeting, and anyone is welcome to attend.

Housing Opportunities in Mixed-Use Areas

The HOMA Project [ https://bellevuewa.gov/HOMA?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] is focused on encouraging more housing in Bellevue by updating the land use code.

Building on the recently adopted Comprehensive Plan [ https://bellevuewa.gov/sites/default/files/media/pdf_document/2024/cdd-23-673-comprehensive-plan-book.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], HOMA will:

* Make it easier to build housing in most mixed-use areas
* Create an affordable housing program in most of the mixed-use areas
* Update rules that impact housing development, such as building heights, parking, and setbacks
* Rezone some areas to align with the Comprehensive Plan [ https://bellevuewa.gov/sites/default/files/media/pdf_document/2024/cdd-23-673-comprehensive-plan-book.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and Future Land Use Map [ https://bellevuewa.gov/sites/default/files/media/pdf_document/2024/futurelandusekcp_24x32_0.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]

How to get involved and learn more

The City is hosting five informational meetings in January. There will be one virtual session and four in-person meetings at different times and places around Bellevue. To learn more and sign up, review the available HOMA Information Session [ https://www.eventbrite.com/e/housing-opportunities-in-mixed-use-areas-information-session-tickets-1116898095269?aff=oddtdtcreator&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] dates online and register.

These meetings will be an opportunity for the community to learn about the proposed updates, ask questions and provide feedback.

For more details on HOMA and proposed rezones, visit the Housing Related Code Amendments site [ https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/049bad6a7ba944ae9d5692ea7a3f3400?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].
