Visit any of our front desks to get your sticker!   SSF Recognized for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 35th Year The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the City of South San Francisco the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to GFOA. Read the Press Release   Share Your Ideas for the New Linden Park Thank you to all who participated in the Open House + Listening Session, Pop-Up Event, Merchants' Round Table, and provided feedback during the Visioning Phase for the new park at Linden and Pine. Upcoming Park Design Engagement Opportunities Open House + Listening Session #2 - Saturday, August 24th Concert in the Park - Saturday, September 21st Take the Survey   South San Francisco, Past and Present Check out the hidden gems of public art at the Post Office at 322 Linden Avenue. A 3-panel series of oil paintings titled “South San Francisco, Past and Present” features South San Francisco’s City Hall, a cowboy, and an industrial worker. Completed in 1941 by Victor Arnautoff, the work was funded by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), a New Deal Program created by President Roosevelt that employed millions of jobseekers to carry out public works projects. Victor Arnautoff was a well-known and prolific artist who painted many Bay Area murals, including the controversial “Life of Washington” mural at Washington High School and some of the murals at Coit Tower in San Francisco. He also taught at Stanford University. Check it out, share it on social media, and tag us! Learn More Learn More About Our Promotores Program The Promotores Program assists individuals with system navigation services. Clients of the Promotores receive referrals to employment, housing, health care, food security, and legal aid agencies. Recently we announced our participation in the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Advancing Economic Mobility Rapid Grant program. As a selected participant, the City of South San Francisco will receive a grant for economic mobility advancement along with six-months of coaching from NLC. This grant will assist with the City’s Promotores Program in providing expanded outreach, focusing on Tagalog, Mandarin, and Cantonese speakers. Join them in the Youth Library for a morning of song, dance, and fun! Please note this event will be in place of Cantonese Storytime this day. Cantonese Storytime will resume the following week. Year Round Gardening: Author Talk with Pam Peirce Saturday, August 24, 10:30 AM Main Library, 901 Civic Campus Way, City Council Chambers When Pam Peirce created a plan for planting a year-round food garden, she realized that gardeners often miss one of the resulting four seasons—January through March. She named it “The Secret Season” - a time in which rain will supplement or replace your watering efforts and when pests are least active. The resulting harvests will give you delicious garden produce long before your summer harvest is underway. Pam will show you what to plant, how to avoid having to garden on cold, rainy days, and special tips for the best use of our region’s Secret Season.     Concert in the Park Save the date for the South San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department's Concert in the Park: Community Fun Fest on Saturday, September 21! This free event will take place at Orange Memorial Park from 11:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Family and friends of all ages are encouraged to join in the festivities. Please place empty (scraped/rinsed) plastic containers under the “Containers Only” lid of your blue split or dedicated recycling cart only if they are marked with the chasing arrows recycling triangle and a number 1, 2, or 5 in the middle. Accepted plastics include: #1 (PET) bottles, tubs, and “clamshell” style containers. Water and soda bottles, berry containers, and salsa tubs are good examples. #2 (HDPE natural) milk jugs. #2 (HDPE color) bottles, jugs, jars, and tubs. Laundry detergent, shampoo, and most cleaning products fit this description. #5 (PP) tubs like for yogurt, sour cream, and cottage cheese. Leaving lids on your recyclable plastic containers is okay; especially if there is residual food or liquid inside. Lids by themselves, however, belong in the garbage. All other plastics belong in the grey garbage cart. This includes most cups (which are often #6 or #7), anything Styrofoam, all types of tubes (like for lotion and toothpaste), and all soft plastics (bags, wrap, and mailing envelopes for example).
