Department of Public Health – Seattle & King County is seeking a *Public Health Administrative Support Supervisor (PHASS)* to join its innovative team! The PHASS will provide primarily on-site supervisory support for a team of administrative specialists in the King County Correctional Facility and/or Maleng Regional Justice Center. The PHASS provides supervisory oversight and support for administrative specialists who complete functions that support medical records releases, scanning of documents into the medical record, scheduling of internal and external clinic appointments, support for psychiatric services and internal health clinics, and administrative support for the Jail Health Services (JHS) Division across three sites (KCCF, MRJC, and Chinook Building).
*Why Join Our Team?*
This is a supervisory position and will be an opportunity for one to develop additional leadership skills and supervise a team of individuals. The incumbent will also collaborate to help develop the Health Information Management section (HIMS) program policies and procedures. The HIMS team supports nearly every part of the health care practice in the Jail Health Services division, and we work together to find ways to do so.
*Background*
JHS provides needed health and social services to the people incarcerated in the King County jails – King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) in Seattle, WA and Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) in Kent, WA. The primary services we provide include medical, dental, mental health, social and release planning services, treatment of substance use disorders, and pharmaceutical services. Our team shares a commitment to respectfully caring for and engaging participants in a culturally responsive manner, meeting them where they are, using holistic and strengths-based approaches, and trauma informed care to foster their health and mental wellbeing and reduce recidivism. Our division includes over 230 employees and an annual budget of approximately $60 million.
The Health Information Management section (HIMS) provides the administrative support for the division and works with internal and external partners and stakeholders to ensure the following: scheduling of internal and external clinic appointments, releases of medical records/information, scanning of paper documents into the electronic medical record, support for both internal and external psychiatric services providers, and other various administrative support functions. The team consists of two Public Health Administrative Support Supervisors (PHASS), three leads (Administrative Specialist IIIs) and a number of Administrative Specialist IIs.
*"Note: This posting will create a list of qualified candidates that may be considered for selection of additional vacancies of the same position type over the next 6 months. "*
*Commitment To Equity and Social Justice*
Named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most influential civil rights leaders in our nation's history, King County is a vibrant international community with residents that represent countries from around the world. It is a region with increasing diversity that cherishes the traditions of many cultures.
The county government has a deep commitment to equity and social justice and advancing practices, strategies, and policies that promote fairness, justice, and opportunity for all – in our workplaces and our communities. With this commitment, King County has adopted a pro-equity agenda to advance regional change and ensure that residents from all communities are incorporated into our emergency planning and public outreach efforts.
We recognize that structural racism consists of principles and practices that cause and justify an inequitable distribution of rights, opportunities, and experiences across racial groups. Since declaring Racism is a Public Health Crisis in June 2020, King County and Public Health committed to being intentionally anti-racist and accountable to Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities.

*Work Schedule*
The typical work schedule will be offered as a traditional "five 8s" or "four 10s" schedule. The 8 hour shift preferred schedule would be 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. The 10 hour shift preferred schedule would be 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday. The hours of operation for HIMS is 5:00am to 10:30pm so other shift times can be negotiated between the chosen candidate and the hiring manager.
*Work Location*
The primary work site will be the King County Correctional Facility (KCCF) at 500 5th Ave Seattle, WA 98104 with occasional work at the Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) at 620 W. James St. Kent, WA 98032. Remote work is optional up to one day per week, while the remaining shifts will be on site at KCCF or MRJC.
*Teleworking:*
Some of the work associated with this position will be performed through teleworking, and will report to office location and to meetings as needed. Travel to other work locations may be necessary. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.
