We need your help to understand local risks View as Webpage May 23, 2024 Reno Connect Connecting Citizens to our Community   Help Emergency Managers Prepare for the Next Emergency Did you know that Northern Nevada is at risk for 13 identified natural and man-made disasters? Local governments are hard at work planning for those disasters and practicing ways to mitigate the damage. That’s why the Washoe Region is currently reviewing and updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan and is seeking your help to ensure that all perspectives, needs, and ideas are considered. Take this short survey by June 15. The survey is also available in Spanish. Washoe County, City of Reno, City of Sparks, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation, the Truckee River Flood Management Authority, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection Plan, and their partners all contribute to the Hazard Mitigation Plan to reduce the negative effects of these disasters: Wildland fires Floods Earthquakes Energy emergencies Terrorism and Crimes Severe storms Hazardous materials Droughts Infectious diseases Avalanche and landslides Transportation incidents Radiological waste transports Volcanos Disasters may not be avoidable, but there are things we all can do to mitigate the risk. Build defensible space around your house, have an evacuation plan in place, and stay current on vaccines and healthcare to prevent infectious disease. Thank you for doing your part!
