Join Us October 4 for Downtown Dog Days – A Fun Fall Event for You and Your Dog!

Join us for the Downtown Dog Days Fall Edition on Friday, October 4, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Fremont Downtown Event Center Plaza, located at 3500 Capitol Ave.

This free, family-friendly event is a celebration of our four-legged friends and a great way to connect with the community. Enjoy dog handling demonstrations, training sessions, dog-themed crafts, live music, food trucks, local vendors, pet adoptions, and a low-cost pet vaccination clinic.

Celebrating Excellence in Budgeting

We’re proud to share that the City of Fremont has received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for our FY 2025/26 Adopted Operating Budget!

This recognition highlights the dedication and innovation of our budget team and all City staff who contributed. This year’s budget process saw a major overhaul, including improvements to the pension and post-employment benefits section, along with new visual storytelling using graphics and photos.

Temporary One-Way Traffic Control on Niles Canyon Road in Sunol

Caltrans will implement temporary one-way traffic control on State Route 84 (Niles Canyon Road) near the town of Sunol. Crews will be installing new guardrails on eastbound SR-84. Temporary one-way traffic control is necessary to safely complete this work. Work is weather dependent and expect travel delays.

Work Schedule:

* Start: Wednesday night, September 24, 2025
* Duration: Approximately four weeks (September 24 – October 24, 2025)
* Traffic Control: One-way traffic control will be in place 24 hours daily for the duration of the project

Full Closure of Niles Canyon Road for Maintenance Project – October 4 & 5

Caltrans is scheduled to close State Route 84 through Niles Canyon on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm each day. Caltrans will carry out intensive maintenance along SR-84 in Niles Canyon. This concentrated effort enhances safety and roadway reliability for motorists, pedestrians, and local communities. For safety, a full closure of SR-84 through Niles Canyon will be in effect during project hours. Detours and advanced message signs will be in place, expect travel delays.

It’s National Stormwater Awareness Week! To recognize this week, we’re educating our community on the importance of stormwater and how we can all work together to protect our local waterways. Stormwater doesn’t just disappear—it carries whatever’s on the ground into our waterways. It flows—untreated—into creeks, rivers, lakes, and oceans, carrying pollutants with it.

Protecting our water starts right in your own neighborhood.

Here are a few simple ways you can help:

* *Adopt a storm drain [ http://city.fremont.gov/adoptadrain ]* and keep it clear of debris.
* Pick up after your pets. 
* Install a rain barrel to reduce runoff and water your garden.
* Properly dispose of paint, oil, and yard waste.
* Use less fertilizer and choose native plants.

Every small action helps reduce pollution and protect clean water for everyone!
