** Holiday Tree Lighting

Join us for the annual tree lighting at Mill Creek Park Friday, December 6! The festive evening starts at 4:30 PM as we count down to turning on the holiday lights throughout the park at 6 PM. Parking is available in City lots (City Hall, Mahoney and Brown School). Please be respectful of businesses and leave parking spots closest to them available for customers. ** Last Chance! Photo Contest

Submit digital photographs of scenes that capture the special character of your City and what you'd like to see thrive here in the future.
* The winner will be awarded a $50 gift card to a local business, City swag, and a spot on the cover of the City's new Comprehensive Plan (https://southportland2040.com/) (currently underway)
* Two runners up will win a $25 gift card to a local business, City swag, and be featured in the pages of the Comprehensive Plan

** Winter Parking Ban & Snow Removal
------------------------------------------------------------

No parking is allowed on any City street between 12 AM and 6 AM December 1 - April 1 per City Ordinance. Public parking is available for City residents and their guests to temporarily park during the winter parking ban. Anyone who parks on a street overnight should expect to be ticketed and/or towed. Your cooperation helps ensure that Public Works crews can quickly respond to overnight icing and snow events to keep our streets safe. ** Willard Beach Manhole Replacement
------------------------------------------------------------

Construction will be taking place on Willard Beach during the week of December 9. To improve the resilience of the City’s infrastructure from damaging storm events, the Water Resource Protection Department (WRP) will be replacing two sewer manholes. The beach will remain open, but the portion of the beach where the work is occurring will be blocked off during the work, which is expected to last a few days.

** Heating Assistance Fund
------------------------------------------------------------

Want to help keep a neighbor warm this winter? The City is accepting donations to our Heating Assistance Fund. The fund helps South Portland residents in need of support with heating costs. To donate, make your check payable to the City of South Portland with "Heating Assistance Fund" in the memo line, and send to: South Portland Social Services Dept., PO Box 9422, South Portland, ME 04116-9422. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extend allowed by law.

* South Portland Bus Service will officially merge with Greater Portland Metro on December 29, 2024. The Board of Directors, which includes four South Portland representatives, met to kick of the transition this month.
* The Parks & Rec Winter/Spring 2025 brochure (https://southportlandme.myrec.com/forms/6342_2025_winter_spring_final_online.pdf) is now available! Program registration opens December 16 (residents) and December 19 (non-residents).

* Age Friendly South Portland is still in need of volunteers to shovel walkways for seniors who have requested help. No driveways!
