Los Altos City Hall and most City departments will be closed Tuesday, December 24-Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Police and emergency services remain available 24 hours a day. Learn More     Prevent Sewer Backups during Holiday Season The City sees an increase in sewer backups during the holiday season caused by excessive amounts of fats, oils, and grease entering the sanitary sewer system. To avoid causing costly and messy sewer overflows, the proper disposal methods are available for residents to follow. Learn More     Holiday Tree Recycling Starts December 26 Mission Trail Waste Systems will collect holiday trees on your regular service day from Thursday, December 26-Friday, January 17, 2025. Residents must follow all tree collection guidelines. Please be aware that flocked trees will be collected but cannot be composted.     Los Altos to Transition to New Bids & RFP System Starting Wednesday, January 1, 2025, the City will transition to PlanetBids for managing Bids & Requests for Proposals (RFPs). The current Bids & RFP site will remain available until Tuesday, December 31. To continue receiving notifications, vendors are encouraged to register on the new vendor portal. Learn More     New Daylighting Law Takes Effect January 1 To improve pedestrian safety, a new state law known as the "Daylighting Law" (AB 413) takes effect on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Drivers are now required to park at least 20 feet away from crosswalks, improving visibility at crosswalks. The City will issue warnings for violations before issuing tickets.
