A special Thanksgiving message🍗🌽

Email from City of South San Francisco     Happy Thanksgiving, neighbor! As we come together this Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you. This year has been filled with both challenges and triumphs, and through it all, your resilience, kindness, and dedication have been a constant source of strength for our city. South City is South City because of you. A few things we can all be grateful for this year: Our city’s commitment to diversity and resilience earned us a spot on the National League of Cities’ Centennial Roadshow, one of 100 stops nationwide. We’ve expanded childcare with 120 new before- and after-school spaces for low-income families in partnership with South San Francisco Unified School District, and allocated $9 million to expand childcare in Westborough. 85,000 square-foot building = More opportunities! More than 20,000 of you have attended one of the 710 programs hosted by our Library, and more than 4,500 of you have attended more than 700 recreation classes. $18 million was invested in park improvements, including the new Orange Memorial Park Sports Field, Centennial Way Park South with a skate park and bike pump track, Oyster Point Phase 2C, and the Westborough walk path. We also broke ground on the Orange Memorial Aquatic Park! The South San Francisco Police Department improved safety with 12 new Automated License Plate Reader cameras, and significant reductions in vehicle burglaries, catalytic converter thefts, and overall crime. The South San Francisco Fire Department responded to 8,447 calls and supported 64 days of strike team efforts. We’ve helped 66 low-income households stay in stable housing this year through YMCA Rental Assistance, and 880 affordable homes have been approved or built since 2015. Our Public Works team secured $12.5 million in grants to improve infrastructure, including summer surface seal treatments. We’re continuing to attract new business, with Starbird, Nation’s Giant Hamburgers (they’re open tomorrow if you still need pie!), Curry Pizza House, Astellas Pharma, Wildflour bakery, and soon In-N-Out and Safeway joining the community. For more highlights from the year, check out this year’s State of the City replay. I am truly thankful for the spirit of unity and collaboration that binds us together. As the end of my mayorship draws near, I hope you know how grateful I am to serve such an incredible community. This holiday, I hope you find time to relax, reflect, eat well, and enjoy the company of those you hold dear. Don’t forget to also support our local small businesses on Small Business Saturday! Wishing you all a warm, peaceful, and joyous Thanksgiving!
