Mobile Home Fire in the 400 Block of Moffett Boulevard

Firefighters stop the spread of flames before they can reach nearby residences.

Mobile Home Fire in the 400 Block of Moffett Boulevard

On Saturday, Aug. 17 at 5:40 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting a mobile home fire in the 400 block of Moffett Boulevard.

City of Mountain View Fire Department units were dispatched at 5:40 a.m. and the first engine company arrived on the scene at 5:46 a.m.

Firefighters performed a primary search for occupants and located one resident. It was determined that the resident had succumbed. No other occupants were located in the home.

The first engine on the scene reported heavy fire with flames visible through the side of the mobile home. Firefighters engaged the flames with a 1 ¾ inch fire-attack hose line. During the extinguishment, the floor collapsed inside the residence. A fire captain fell through the floor and dislocated his shoulder. He was transported to a local hospital.

The fire was successfully extinguished preventing flames from extending to neighboring mobile homes. No further injuries occurred.

Fire investigators are currently on the scene investigating the cause of the fire. The mobile home is a total loss, with estimated damage to the contents and structure exceeding $250,000.

City of Palo Alto Fire Department units also responded and assisted with the fire attack.
