Mark your calendars for the following Tampa City Council meetings: City Council Special Call Budget Workshops on August 5 at 1 pm and August 19 at 9 am, and City Council Budget Public Hearings on September 3 at 5:01 pm and September 17 at 5:01 pm. Parks & Recreation After School Registration

Rock the Park

For 13 years, the Tampa Downtown Partnership and Brokenmold Entertainment has produced a free monthly music series showcasing musical talents of all genres. Attend the next Rock the Park event in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on August 1 at 6:30 pm to check out Persephone’s Choice, Swamp Poney, and Mwiza Trio. Food will be available for purchase from JAM DISH and This Little Pig food trucks.

Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Erika O’Brien, a National Sales Manager at the Tampa Convention Center. She has worked for the City of Tampa for almost five years, and she loves that her position can feel like putting together a puzzle. “When you get a client, you not only have to take into consideration what their event needs are but if there is another event in the building, you need to make sure that what you are contracting makes sense. Putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, making sure that it’s a good flow between groups with their meeting locations and where they are hosting the main part of their event,” she said.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love spending time with my husband, the rest of our family and our friends. My favorite thing to do is act like a tourist in our own town. Select an area that is new in Tampa, or that I just never been to and explore as if I were visiting from another city.

What is your dream vacation? I would love to go to Europe for a few months and just live there and immerse myself in the culture. Growing up, I lived in Germany for a few years (Army Brat); we moved here when I started high school. My parents had us travel to several different countries while we were living there, but I would like to go back as an adult and really appreciate all the history and culture that you do not appreciate as much when you are younger.

What is your favorite holiday? I love Christmas! I decorate our house right after Veterans Day and I keep everything up until after January 6. I am from Puerto Rico and there we continue celebrating Christmas until after “Dia de Los Reyes” which is Three Kings Day (Epiphany). It brings me so much joy having the house decorated, having family over, all the festivities, and just having the time to celebrate with loved ones, and saying Happy Birthday to Jesus!

What reality show would you want to be on? I would be on an interior design show. One of my hobbies is staging homes and learning about interior design. I have staged a few homes that have been sold and whenever a friend or family member needs to redecorate, they ask for my assistance.

What is your favorite restaurant in Tampa? My favorite restaurant is Besito Mexican Restaurant! It has delicious food, great ambiance, beautiful décor and good music. I always have a wonderful experience.
