City Manager update

Election results have not been certified, but preliminary outcomes show that Vancouver voters rejected Proposition 4, a property tax levy that would have funded additional officers, non-sworn police staff and more.

While this levy was not approved, I want to assure you that we hear and recognize our community's calls for enhancing public safety and remain committed to finding solutions to ensure we make Vancouver one of the safest urban cities in Washington.

City news

Proposed bridge shelter to address camping impacts

We're working to establish a bridge shelter to increase bed capacity and lessen the impacts of unsheltered homelessness on our community.

The shelter would provide a safe place for people to stay and access services to 'bridge' the space between living outside and stable housing.
Do Good Multnomah (https://t.e2ma.net/click/sn00lf/wqxjmrg/w65owp)
has been selected to operate the shelter and will support the City on its design and operations plan.

Later this year, City Council will decide whether to move forward with a shelter at the proposed 5313 N.E. 94th Ave. property in the Van Mall neighborhood.

Troy Price named finalist for next chief of police

Community safety through policing is one of the most important and complex services the City provides. To build on the momentum created under the leadership of recently retired chief Jeff Mori, the City has conducted an
internal recruitment (https://t.e2ma.net/click/sn00lf/wqxjmrg/449owp)
for his successor. On Oct. 30, we invited the community to meet and ask question of our finalist,
Interim Chief Troy Price (https://t.e2ma.net/click/sn00lf/wqxjmrg/kxapwp). Community feedback was shared with the City Manager to help inform a final hiring decision later this month.
