A Time Slip into the Past ？ ！ Experiences offered at the History Experience Center

The following is an introduction to the experiences offered at the History Experience Center.

■ Fire Making （ 45 minutes, maximum 24 people, free of charge ）
In the program held on weekends and holidays, you can experience mainly the Umigiri method of fire making. In the Umigiri-style fire making, a bow-like tool is used to make a fire starter. It takes a lot of energy to build a fire, but the sense of accomplishment when the fire is lit is exceptional.

■ Trying on Ancient Costumes （ Experience time: 45 minutes, maximum 23 people, limited sizes, free ）
You can try on costumes worn by people in the Kofun period. There are three types of costumes: kantou gowns worn by common people in those days （ kantoui ）, hofuku worn by powerful people （ kofuku ）, tsutsusode （ tsutsusode ）, which is said to represent the appearance of people who came to Japan, and miko (maiden) costumes worn by priestesses who performed rituals （ miko Fukuro ）, which is said to have been worn by miko (shrine maidens) who performed rituals. The miko-fuku is especially popular among girls. The costumes are available in sizes from adults to small children.

■ Excavation Experience （ Experience time 45 minutes, maximum 18 people, free of charge ）
Experience excavation by recreating the ruins as they were in the city. Here you can excavate real Jomon pottery. Those who participate are absorbed in the excavation, losing track of time. Visitors can also listen to explanations by curators and experience using the surveying tools used in the excavation.

■ Making of Kouta-dama (Japanese traditional ornamental beads) （ Experience time: 60 minutes; maximum number of participants: 20; material fee: 500 yen ）
This is an experience to make Kouta-dama, which were often made in the Kofun period. There are many ancient tombs in Ichiura, and various types of katadama have been found there. The stones are called Aotaishi （ Seidenseki ）, and when they are patiently sharpened and polished with four kinds of sandpaper, shiny and shiny balls are completed.
