Aimed at connecting our diverse community through our shared appreciation of music, the Center for Musical Arts’ 2023-24 concert series celebrates musical excellence and an expansive mix of musical genres—all in our welcoming and intimate performance space.

Drawing from the music of Django Reinhardt and the “hot club” style of early 20th century jazz, LaPompe performs a fresh collection of classics and original compositions. Presenting complex and virtuosic arrangements with rustic and acoustic instrumentation including acoustic guitars, upright bass, violin, they have described themselves as “mountain swing” — the kind of music that fits as well in a log cabin as it does in a speakeasy or on the big stage.

Country Thunder is a music festival brand that hosts several concerts in North America each year. They have operated festivals in Wisconsin and Arizona since 1996, and shows in Saskatchewan since 2005 and in Alberta since 2016.

Leah Claiborne, D.M.A., is a passionate advocate for diversity in the arts. She is dedicated to promoting piano music composed by Black artists through her performances, research, and teaching endeavors.

With The Beatles LOVE, Cirque du Soleil celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatles through their timeless, original recordings. Drawn from the poetry of the lyrics, the show explores the content of the songs as interpreted by innovative performances from a cast of 60 international artists. A youthful, raw energy is channeled through aerial performance, extreme sports and urban freestyle dance.

In a rare U.S. performance, their first ever in Texas, Germany’s famed Ensemble Modern performs the American premiere of a new arrangement of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht’s popular musical theater work, The Seven Deadly Sins, with acclaimed mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta singing the lead role of Anna. The sound world conjures up Berlin cabaret, but Seven Deadly Sins begins and ends in Louisiana, evoking the exile of its creators. Music from the theater worlds of Berlin and Vienna round out this remarkable program.

Quince Ensemble is a treble voice quartet aiming to change the paradigm of contemporary vocal chamber music. Liz Pearse (soprano), Kayleigh Butcher (mezzo soprano), Amanda DeBoer Bartlett (soprano), and Carrie Henneman Shaw (soprano) thrive on unique musical challenges and genre-bending repertoire. This performance is part of the free “New Music at Short North Stage” concert series. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis and performances are recommended for ages 9 and older.

String trios by two uncontainable mavericks, Ludwig van Beethoven and Dame Ethel Smyth.

In this special evening, critically acclaimed Grammy-winning instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello, along with her band and guests, shares her resonant, ever-evolving exploration of American novelist, playwright, essayist, poet, and activist, James Baldwin. Inspired by the way Baldwin empowered others through the written word, Ndegeocello uses music as her vehicle to engage others in the challenge and promise of Baldwin’s powerful body of work.


Throughout her decades long career, Ndegeocello has eschewed genre for originality, celebrity for longevity, and musical trends for musical truths. Fans have come to expect the unexpected and followed her on sojourns into soul, R&B, jazz, hip-hop, rock, all bound by the search for love, justice, respect, and resolution. Those sonic investigations have defied and redefined the industry expectations of women, queer artists, and black music for over 30 years, and she remains one of few women who write the music, sing the songs, and lead the band.

Join Florida Grand Opera on April 6, 7 and 9, 2024 at the Arsht Center for a performance of La bohème, Puccini's passionate and time less story of bohemian lovers in Paris. They’re starving for everything but love. Rodolfo loves Mimì, Marco loves Musetta, Colline loves philosophy, Schaunard loves music, and they all love their eccentric bohemian life in the garrets of Paris’ 19th century Latin Quarter. Starving artists all, this crazy cadre of young friends bear their poverty with laughter and grace, until it devastates them with unspeakable tragedy. With beloved favorites like “Che gelida manina,” “Quando m’en vo’,” and “Donde lieta uscì,” Puccini’s divinely romantic score memorably illustrates the joys, struggles, loves, quarrels, triumphs, and tragedies of six friends and lovers as they embody the true vie de bohème.
