The Speciale Venu International Music Competition is a US-based international classical music competition open to all instruments, with no age or professional restrictions. There is only one video screening of free compositions. Winners will be nominated to perform in a concert at the beautiful Memorial Church of Harvard University in the United States.
You may also apply with a video you have used in the past.
Video judging will be given for performances on all instruments including piano, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass, ancient instruments, and classical guitar. Categories are solo, duo, and chamber music. Applications in more than one category are accepted.

Early deadline for video judging is May 31; final deadline is July 31.
Winners' concert will be held on October 13th (Sun.) at Memorial Church on the Harvard University campus

San Fermin songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone writes songs that shift seamlessly between joy and dread, panic and euphoria. Since the band’s beginnings in 2013, San Fermin’s ambitious scope has taken them across a variety of genres, attracting an eclectic group of collaborators that reflect LudwigLeone’s own wide-ranging musical background. San Fermin rose to early acclaim on the strength of their self-titled debut, which bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone had initially envisioned as a one-off featuring more than 20 collaborators. NPR hailed the album as “one of the year's most surprising, ambitious, evocative and moving records,” while Pitchfork called breakout single “Sonsick” “deliriously infectious.” Buoyed by the record’s success, Ludwig-Leone put together a full-time band and hit the road, performing everywhere from the Tiny Desk to Lollapalooza and sharing bills with the likes of alt-J, Courtney Barnett, the National, and St. Vincent. In the years to come, the group would go on to release three similarly lauded albums, prompting The New Yorker to celebrate their “knack for simultaneously expressing beauty and crisis,” and Rolling Stone to declare them “masters of highbrow chamber pop.

Written in the topsy-turvy days following two different breakups, San Fermin’s poignant new album, Arms, is a testament to the band’s ability to transform pain and isolation into catharsis and healing. The songs are more minimalist than ever before, stripping away much of the sonic ornamentation the Brooklyn eight-piece has come to be known for in favor of a more raw, direct sound reflective of the album’s candid, plainspoken lyrics. The result is a deeply moving, compassionate collection, one that moves from anger and disappointment to clarity and acceptance as it balances devastation and hope in equal measure.

The most famous love story ever written is told through the universal language of music in Prokofiev’s impassioned and romantic Romeo and Juliet. Dorothy Chang’s Northern Star points the way to a world of evocative soundscapes and kaleidoscopic color. And, Principal Cellist Brinton Averil Smith performs one of classical music’s most popular cello concertos—Dvořák poured his soul into it, and it includes some of his most heart-achingly beautiful music.

Gilberto Santa Rosa’s musical elegance and style have made him one of the most prominent figures in popular music. His countless accolades in the recording industry reaffirm his validity through the years, among them the 2002 ASCAP Latin Heritage Award, 6 GRAMMY awards, and most recently Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for Necesito Un Bolero.

“Music is life, and like it, it is inextinguishable.” With this declaration written at the top of his score, Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4 pits the everlasting spirit of life against the horror of World War I with dramatic music leading to, what else, but a battle between two timpani! Making his CSO debut, conductor Ryan Bancroft opens this program with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Ballade for Orchestra, and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, displaying the virtuosity of guest pianist Inon Barnatan, heralded by The New York Times as “one of the most admired pianists of his generation.”

Noe ・ Soulier, director of the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine Angers since 2020 and a noted choreographer who has choreographed for the Lyon ・ Ballet de l'Opera and the Netherlands ・ Dance ・ Theatre 2\ (NDT2), makes her first appearance in Saitama. While an excerpt from the novel of the same name by Virginia ・ Woolf is narrated, the percussion rhythms of the contemporary music ensemble ・ Iktus and the movements of the six performers respond to each other, speaking to the viewer's memory. No admission for preschool children. Admission for preschool children is not permitted.

Stories of glory, chivalry and adventure abound as conductor Sir Mark Elder joins the CSO. Wagner’s Tannhäuser is a musical story of lust, love, and deliverance, as the opera’s title character makes a pilgrimage from the magical realm of Venus to his final redemption in Rome. Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben is an epic portrayal of the hero that exists in all of us, along with the accompanying joys and struggles, depicted through battling brass and tender string melodies. Pianist Pavel Kolesnikov brings his “fluid, fine-toned” (Gramophone) playing to Mozart’s melodic Piano Concerto No. 17.
