Sarah Sza

For her solo exhibition at Nasher Sculpture Center, artist Sarah Sze invites viewers into a collection of new, site-specific works across three intrepid gallery spaces. Always attuned to the built environment, Sze’s new installations will integrate painting, sculpture, images, sound, and video with the surrounding architecture to create intimate systems that reference the rapidly changing world. This extraordinary new exhibition will blur the boundaries between making and showing, process and product, digital and material ultimately to question how objects acquire their meaning.

Sarah Sze has exhibited work since the 1990’s, employing a profusion of materials that encompass technological and industrial changes collectively experienced over the past 30 years. These materials are orchestrated in dizzying compositions that are sensitively attuned to the spaces they inhabit. Recent exhibitions have seen the artist transform architectural structures as iconic as Frank Lloyd Wright’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and as overlooked as an abandoned waiting room in a South London train station. Sze has also created a number of permanent public works, including those at LaGuardia Airport, Storm King Art Center, The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Seattle Opera House. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2003 and represented the United States at the 2013 Venice Biennale.
