[Introduction to Ogaki City]
Located in the western part of Gifu Prefecture, in the center of Nishi Mino, with a population of 160,000, Ogaki has long been known as the "Water Capital of Ogaki" and is blessed with abundant underground water.
Ogaki is known as the place where haiku poet Matsuo Basho's travelogue "Oku no Hosomichi" concluded, and is also home to Ogaki Castle, which was the headquarters of Ishida Mitsunari of the Western Army during the Battle of Sekigahara, and Sumimata Overnight Castle, which is said to have been built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in a single night, making it a town where nature and history coexist. From late March to May, Ogaki attracts many tourists with boat cruises, tarai boats, and the Ogaki Festival, which was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008.
