*Community Development Department’s Reception Area Remodel to Enhance
Public Services and Security *

"Planning and building services to continue while
construction underway at Mountain View City Hall "

*"Mountain View, Calif."*" — "Remodeling work will soon get underway for the Community Development Department reception and public counter area, which is located on the first floor of Mountain View City Hall. The project will begin on Monday, Oct. 28 and is anticipated to take about 12 weeks to complete.

While construction is underway, the public can continue to receive in-person assistance at City Hall for planning and building permit and inspection services. Customers will instead receive assistance at the Public Works Department reception and public counter area, also located on City Hall’s first floor, during business hours until the remodeling work is complete.

The reception area remodel project will involve the following:


* Construct a new meeting room where staff can meet with planning and building permit customers in-person or virtually.
* Install security doors between the public reception and staff work areas.

These changes will introduce a new meeting space in the reception area where Community Development Department staff can meet with customers privately to discuss their projects. The project will also provide dedicated space for expanded services by the City, such as the re-launch of one-stop permit review for certain small residential and commercial projects in 2025. Re-launch of the one-stop permit review process is the latest action the City is taking to improve the resident and business permitting experience, following an expansion of online permitting in summer 2024.

Another enhancement is new security doors between the public reception area and staff work areas, which replicate other public reception areas in City Hall. Having secure entry points will continue to allow public access in customer-serving areas and prevent inadvertent public entry to staff-only areas. After construction completion, the department reception area and public counter will be open and accessible to the public during business hours.

The estimated project cost for the design and construction of the Community Development Department reception area remodel is $442,000. The funding is coming from the City’s Development Services Fund and Construction and Conveyance Tax Fund.

The City’s contractor will perform most of the construction work during nonbusiness hours to minimize disruption and allow operations to continue in the department. The City of Mountain View appreciates the public’s patience while the reception area remodel takes place.
