The new East Tampa Recreation Complex at Fair Oaks (https://www.tampa.gov/parks-and-recreation/projects/east-tampa-rec-complex) is coming together! Mayor Jane Castor, Tampa City Council, City staff, and community members gathered for a Topping Out Ceremony event, celebrating the installation of the structure's final beam. The new 33,000+ sq ft center will feature space dedicated to seniors, classrooms, an indoor basketball court, and more.

Election Day is Tomorrow

Visit votehillsborough.gov for voting information and polling place locations. Voters can receive free rides on all HART services by showing their valid Voter Information Card tomorrow (November 5).

Storm Debris Pickup

As of today, the City of Tampa and its contractors have collected 581,108 cubic yards of storm debris using 200 trucks. That equals 176 Olympic-sized pools! Thank you for your patience, as we work around the clock to meet our 90 day goal -- to complete the total pickup process. Reminder: you can track the storm debris pickup process and see frequently asked questions at tampa.gov/debris.

Coffee with a Cop

On November 5 from 10 am – 12 pm, Tampa Police Department staff will meet with the community to discuss crime patterns, safety tips, and quality of life concerns over a cup of coffee at Capital One Café (700 S Village Circle).

Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta

Grab lunch on November 6 from a local food truck in Lykes Gaslight Square Park. Participating trucks will be open from 11 am – 2 pm: Grounded Coffee House, Rollin Bites, Impasto, Currywurst Truck & Just Smokin BBQ.

FlugTag at the Tampa Convention Center

Redbull’s FlugTag event (https://www.redbull.com/us-en/events/red-bull-flugtag-tampa) returns to Tampa on November 9 at the Tampa Convention Center. It is a yearly event where teams compete to fly their homemade, human-powered flying machines as far as possible. This event is free and open to the public to watch. Note: Increased traffic is expected in Tampa’s Downtown from November 8 – November 10 due to the FlugTag event and theTattoo Arts Convention, both hosted at the Tampa Convention Center. The West Platt Street Bridge and the Harbour Island Bridge will be closed. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and use rideshare services. The Pam Iorio Garage won't be available due to a conflicting event, but Fort Brooke Parking garage and other Downtown garages will be open.

Veterans Day

Please note that all City of Tampa offices will be closed on November 11 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. There will be no trash or recycling pickup that day.

MacDill Avenue Workshop

As part of the City's MOVES Plan (Mobility, Opportunity, Vision, Equity, Safety), we are seeking public input to transform MacDill Avenue (https://www.tampa.gov/mobility/transportation/projects/complete-streets/macdill_ave) . Share your thoughts & ideas with us at Barksdale Senior Center on November 20 from 8 am – 6 pm. A presentation of recommendations will begin at 4:30 pm. Recovery and Rebuilding Virtual Townhall

Last week, the City of Tampa hosted a Recovery and Rebuilding Virtual Townhall to help answer questions associated with rebuilding after a hurricane including topics like permitting, tax rate/structures, etc. The panel included Hillsborough County Property Appraiser Bob Henriquez, City of Tampa Chief Building Official JC Hudgison, and Whit Remer, City of Tampa's Sustainability and Resilience Officer. EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Holly Thomas, a Water Engineering Planner Scheduler in the Water Department. She enjoys being part of the new Water Engineering Construction team. She has worked for the City of Tampa for 3.5 years and enjoys being part of the new Water Engineering Construction team, created about one year ago. She says, “It’s exciting to be a part of a new team under great leadership. I also love that we are building it from the ground up – creating structure and organization from the very beginning to help ensure the success of our team.”

What is your favorite restaurant in Tampa? I love Mr. Dunderbak’s on Bruce B Downs. Stepping into that place feels like a warm hug. Cozy atmosphere, great food, and everyone that works there is lovely. Say hi to accordion Joe if you go, he’s a treasure.

What do you like to do in your free time? I love to read, paint, and go outside if the sun is not angry. I’ll participate in pretty much anything that is nature, art, or food related.

What is your favorite meal to cook? I have a chicken and orzo recipe that is delicious. It’s a creamy, cheesy pasta dish made with sun dried tomatoes, shallots, and spinach that give great flavor. The best part about this recipe is it only takes one frying pan to cook – super easy.

What is your dream vacation? My dream vacation would be in the Scottish Highlands. I love medieval history and the highlands just look straight out of a fantasy novel.

What is your favorite holiday? Being born the day after Christmas, and with my name, I’m not sure I have a choice! But I really do love Christmas time, Halloween is a close second.

The Red Bull Flugtag is coming back to the Tampa Convention Center for the third time on Saturday, November 9! It’s expected to bring 100,000 spectators with an estimated economic impact of $3,423,000 for the City of Tampa.
