Explore ways that Alzheimer’s and other dementias affect an individual’s ability to communicate across different stages and get tips to better communicate with people living with the disease.







SVILC
Silicon Valley Independent Living Center (SVILC) Housing Workshop

"Thursday, June 13"
"Social Hall, 1 p.m."

The Housing Workshop provided by SVILC will help educate the community on the various types of housing the County can offer, what the eligibility requirements are, and how one can apply for open units or rooms. This workshop helps meet people with disabilities where they are, supports them in their decision to live independently, identifies financial goals as well as potential barriers and opportunities.







Brain Wellness 1
Understanding Dementia and Brain Wellness

Join us for an informative presentation on Healthy Brain Aging by the Stanford Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center team. Explore the nuances of dementia and its signs and symptoms and delve into preventive measures. Discover practical strategies to promote brain health and engage in activities conducive to healthy aging.

Did you miss an Academy Award movie in April? Don't worry, the Top 5 are back on Thursdays this summer at 9 a.m. and again at 1 p.m., starting June 6. We hope you enjoy one of the double showings of the mixture of Academy Award winners and Senior Center Staff favorites!

The 2024 Concert on the Plaza series kicks off on Friday, June 7 and will take place each Friday, June through September, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Join your friends and neighbors and bring your blanket or lawn chair down to Civic Center Plaza, located at 500 Castro Street, for a variety of musical performances.











SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM





Indoor Dining

Community Services Agency's Senior Nutrition Program has a full dine in meal service in the Social Hall of the Mountain View Senior Center. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Sign in will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The Social Hall will close at 1 p.m.

*Lunch service is first come, first served. On occasion, not all patrons can be served.*

Wednesday movies start at 5:30 p.m.*

Come to one of our movie showings in Multipurpose Room B.
Maximum seating for movies is 36. First come, first serve.

When available, screenings have captions for the hard-of-hearing. There is no fee to enjoy these popular movies and seating begins 30 minutes before the show.

*NOTE: Please bundle up or bring a lap blanket with you to the movie. The room tends to be on the cooler side.*

SALA

SALA appointments at the Senior Center on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. In order to receive free legal services, patrons must be at least 60 years of age and a Santa Clara County resident. Registration required.




SECOND HARVEST

Free Grocery Program is available from 8:30 - 10 a.m., on the first through fourth Tuesday of each month. Registration required. To sign-up for the program, call the Food Connection Team at: 800-984-3663. Sponsored by the Second Harvest Food Bank [ http://www.shfb.org/ ].

Free blood pressure screenings from a volunteer registered nurse on the second and fourth Fridays of each month from 12:30 - 1 p.m. in the Dance & Movement Room. No prior registration required. 




HICAP

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) appointments are available at the Senior Center the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. Volunteer counselor can help you understand your specific rights and health care options. Registration required.

Are you struggling to understand your iPad or iPhone? 30 minute appointments are available with a volunteer on each Wednesday of the month between 8:45 - 10:45 a.m. to answer your questions. Registration required.




AARP TAX PREP

Mountain View Senior Center will again host AARP Tax-Aide post-season tax help on the second and fourth Wednesdays from June through October 2024. Appointments are set at 9 & 10 a.m. Registration required.

A tour welcoming you to the Senior Center is scheduled the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Lobby. Staff will review classes, upcoming events, social services, and more.
