As Floridians, we’re all too familiar with the threat of hurricanes. While we are fortunate that impacts from Hurricane Helene were minimal in our region, I’m incredibly proud of our community’s preparedness.

Together, we stayed informed, took necessary precautions, and demonstrated the resilience that defines Orlando. We were ready for the worst, and I’m grateful that our efforts weren’t put to the ultimate test.

Our hearts go out to those that experienced the full force of the storm. This includes the contributions of the Orlando Fire Department firefighters who are traveling to Sarasota County to assist in search and rescue efforts.

Thank you for playing an active role in our preparedness efforts.

Post-Helene Updates

As we return to normal operations, here are a few updates on city services:

SOLID WASTE INFORMATION

Solid waste crews are out today, Friday, September 27, picking up recycling in areas that were missed on Thursday. Trucks will also be running their normal route for Friday trash pickup.

REPORT A DOWN TREE

To report a down tree, call the non-emergency line at 407.246.2283. For emergency issues that require immediate attention, please call 9-1-1.

PREPAREDNESS
Even though we have said goodbye to Helene, we aren’t done with the 2024 storm season, so stay prepared!
* Keep canned goods, water and other hurricane snacks at the ready for the next storm
* As you clean up your yards help prevent future flooding, don’t blow leaves or grass into the street (https://www.orlando.gov/Our-Government/Departments-Offices/Public-Works/Streets-and-Stormwater-Division/Keep-Our-Lakes-Clean/Keep-Leaves-Off-The-Street?mc_cid=b3ec099f4a&mc_eid=UNIQID)
* Check in with your neighbors to make sure they are ok and if they have needs for the next storm
