Pumpkins in the Park

On Saturday, October 19th, Friends of the Park will present “Pumpkins in the Park”, a family-friendly event celebrating Fall and the Halloween holiday. The event will be hosted from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Edith Rodaway Friendship Park at 350 Prospect Avenue.  Planned activities include a costume contest, face painting, a Halloween photo booth, games and pumpkin decorating.  Members of the public are welcome to bring the kids and come out to enjoy this free and fun fall attraction in one of our Cities’ wonderful parks.

*Parks Master Plan Joint Meeting*

The Parks Master Plan, which will help guide the direction and development of our City's recreation spaces and facilities for the next 30 years, will be presented at a joint meeting of the Parks & Recreation and Public Works Commissions on *Tuesday, October 29, at 6:00pm*. The agenda, with participation details, will be posted on the City’s ‘Agenda/Minutes/Video’ page at least 72 hours in advance, and members of the public are welcome to attend and submit questions. 

*Fire Prevention Week *

This week is National Fire Prevention Week. It is celebrated throughout North America every October and will continue until October 12th.

“Smoke alarms: Make them work for you” is the theme this year. The campaign strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home. *Skechers Pier to Pier Walk*

On Sunday, October 20th, the Skechers Foundation will host its16th annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk. Each October, the foundation hosts a 3.5 mile walk from Manhattan Beach Pier to Hermosa Beach Pier and back to raise funds for public education and children with special needs.  

Check-in and registration for this year’s event begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier. For more information on the walk or how to donate funds, please visit skechersfriendshipwalk.com. We look forward to seeing everyone at this community event supporting a good cause.

*Walk to End Alzheimer's*

Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 9am

Location: Pier Plaza and the Strand north of the Pier

_About the Event:_ The event is a 5K fundraising walk-a-thon that will take place beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Pier Plaza and the Strand north of the Pier. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support and research. 

Members of the public are welcome to attend this free event, and all participants are encouraged to raise critical funds that support the Alzheimer’s Association’s important work.
