NEW! CMS National Training Program Update

August 2024

National Training Program
August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM)

National Immunization Awareness Month

Vaccines help protect people of all ages against many diseases and conditions. This month, CMS is working to increase access to vaccines and encouraging those served by CMS to get their routine shots in honor of National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). NIAM highlights the importance of routine vaccination for all people.

Immunizations, often referred to as vaccinations, vaccines, or shots, may include commonly known vaccinations, like flu shots [ https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/flu-shots ] and COVID-19 vaccines [ https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-vaccine ], in addition to other important, routine vaccinations for different age groups. Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) covers all vaccines that the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends, including the vaccines for TDAP, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), shingles, and more. Medicare Part D won't charge a copayment or apply a deductible for vaccines ACIP recommends.

Learn more about Medicare-covered vaccines by visiting the Immunization and Vaccine Resources [ https://www.cms.gov/priorities/health-equity/minority-health/resource-center/immunization-vaccine-resources ] webpage to find immunization resources or visit Medicare.gov [ https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/tdap-shots ] or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800- 633-4227) for more information about Medicare coverage and costs. Also, InsureKidsNow.gov [ https://www.insurekidsnow.gov/initiatives/vaccinations/index.html ] and the CDC have resources on their websites including the CDC’s recommended immunizations for children (birth – 6 years) [ https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/imz-schedules/child-easyread.html?CDC_AAref_Val=https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/easy-to-read/child-easyread.html ], preteens and teens (7 years – 18 years) [ https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/imz-schedules/adolescent-easyread.html?CDC_AAref_Val=https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/easy-to-read/adolescent-easyread.html ], adults (19 years and older) [ https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/imz-schedules/adult-easyread.html ], and the Adult Vaccine Assessment Tool [ https://www2.cdc.gov/nip/adultimmsched/ ].
