Join us for a month of holiday cheer and ways to connect with neighbors and friends at the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Downtown, a festive family craft, and exciting artist workshops. Explore all that December in Palo Alto has to offer and mark your calendars for the exciting events ahead. Featured Festive Events Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Downtown Connect with friends, neighbors, and family for Palo Alto's annual holiday tree lighting. Enjoy live music, hot chocolate, and bright lights. December 6 5:30 - 7 p.m. Learn More Celebrating the Season on Cal Ave. Visit Cal Ave. for a family friendly, fun & festive celebration of the season with holiday music, tree decorating, and tree lighting. December 7 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. Learn More Holiday Studio Art Sale The Palo Alto Art Center Studio Holiday Sale showcases artwork created by local artists working in the studios at the Art Center. December 7 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Learn More Uplift Local Holidays: Shop, Eat & Experience Local ‘Tis the season to Uplift Local by shopping, eating, and experiencing all that Palo Alto has to offer. For the holidays, the City connected with our local businesses to bring you special deals and discounts. Visit UpliftLocal.org/Holidays to find gifts, restaurants, glasses, and more. Plus, Giving Tuesday is next week. Consider supporting Palo Alto's Friends and Foundations this year such as the Friends of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo, Friends of the Palo Alto Library, the Palo Alto Art Center Foundation, and Friends of the Palo Alto Parks. Cal Ave. Tree Lighting & Holiday Celebration The the City, Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce, and businesses of Cal Ave. on Saturday, December 7 to enjoy holiday music, tree decorating, and tree lighting beginning at 1:30 p.m. and culminating with the lighting at 4:30 p.m. Celebrate the season, have fun, and support our Cal Ave. businesses at this free family friendly event. Holiday Giving: Holiday Toy Drive & Meowy Howlidays Pet Supply Drive Drop off new and unwrapped toys, books, or other gifts for local youth in need at any Palo Alto Fire Station, Palo Alto Library, Lucie Stern Community Center, or Mitchell Park Community Center through December 13. Donate unopened cat and dog food, treats, pet toys, or litter to the Palo Alto Animal Control’s pet supply drive at Palo Alto City Hall and Palo Alto Police Department lobbies, Mitchell Park and Rinconada Libraries, or at Pets in Need Palo Alto through December 19. This variant now accounts for 17% of cases in the U.S. As this strain proves to be more infectious and immune-evasive, it's important to take precautionary measures. The CDC recommends adults ages 65 and older get a second dose of the updated COVID-19 vaccine six months after the first dose. As a reminder, the Department of Health and Human Services is offering four free COVID at-home tests per household via COVIDTests.gov. ArtSEE Expression – Imagination through Art: Children can spark their imagination in a creative art session inspired by the book Not a Box! on Wednesday, December 4 at 4:30 pm at Mitchell Park Library. Author Event – Geri Spieler: Join a discussion with author Geri Spieler about her historical fiction novel based on her grandmother’s life, Regina of Warsaw: Life, Loss and Liberation, on Thursday, December 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Rinconada Library.  Programs for Teens: Get ready for the holidays by making paper snowflakes on Wednesday, December 4 at 3 p.m., bringing a gift for a white elephant party on Friday, December 6 at 4 p.m., and creating handcrafted ornaments on Monday, December 9 at 3 p.m. at The Drop.
