Exciting Updates: Neighborhood Street Fund Projects Underway

Hello Neighbors,

We have exciting news! Two of our Neighborhood Street Fund [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/neighborhood-street-fund?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] projects have started to improve walking routes in your community.

*N 122nd St Walkway Project*

Construction on the new walkway on the north side of N 122nd Street (between Corliss Ave N and 1st Ave NE) began on *Tuesday, September 10*, and will last approximately one month. Here’s what to expect:

* *Work hours:* 7 AM to 5 PM.
* Expect noise, dust, vibrations, and equipment staging during construction hours.
* No parking on the north side of the street during or after construction.
* Bush trimming is necessary on two properties; affected residents should have already received a notice.

*Quick overview:* We're building a new asphalt walkway and planting strip on the north side of N 122nd St, with new curb ramps at both intersections. Speed cushions will also be added to encourage slower driving.

The image shows a street with no sidewalks or walkways for pedestrians, featuring a paved road and green spaces on both sides

*55th Ave S Sidewalk Project*

Initial work for the new sidewalk on 55th Ave S began on *Monday, September 23,* and will continue through Friday, September 27. Puget Sound Energy is working on relocating a gas main, as shown in the work area map. Once that’s done, we’ll start construction on new sidewalk. Here is what to expect:

* *Work hours:* 7 AM to 5 PM.
* During this work, only one traffic lane will be open.
* Flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic flow.
* Driveways access won’t be impacted.
* Parking will not be available on the west side of 55th Ave S during this work.

The image shows a map with two orange zones indicating where Puget Sound Energy (PSE) will be working.

The map above shows the PSE work area

Crews will be working intermittently, and we’ll notify you when work is taking place.

*Quick overview:* This project improves pedestrian access on 55th Ave S, a key route for Rainier View Elementary students. We’ll build a raised concrete sidewalk and planting strip, improve stormwater management, and add new curb bulbs and ramps.

*N 122nd St Walkway Project *and *55th Ave S Sidewalk Project* are part of 15 Neighborhood Street Fund projects requested by neighbors and selected by the Levy to Move Seattle Oversight Committee [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/about-us/funding/levy-to-move-seattle/oversight-committee?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. Neighborhood Street Fund is a city program, running on 3-year cycles, that enables neighbors to propose and help prioritize transportation-related projects that are then built by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT).
