** Summer Concert Series Tonight at Ann Street Plaza
------------------------------------------------------------

The Christopher Minami Quartet will take the stage at Ann Street Plaza tonight (Friday, July 19) for the Summer Concert Series! Check out the full lineup below:
* July 19 – Christopher Minami Quartet
* July 26 – Jonah Gerry
* NO CONCERT Aug. 2
* Aug. 9 – Keynote Sisters
* Aug. 16 – MR Band
* Aug. 23 – The Dangling Participles

Community members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, or dine at one of the nearby restaurants that offer outdoor seating.

** Moonlight Film Festival Next Thursday at Valley Court
------------------------------------------------------------
The next installment in the summer's Moonlight Film Festival will be the 2023 hit "Barbie" on Thursday, July 25. Movies begin at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m. in July and 9 p.m. in August) at Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. “Crazy Rich Asians” will follow on Aug. 8 and the 2019 version of "Little Women" on Aug. 22. Bring a blanket or low chair -- and some popcorn!


** Two More Play in the Park Events Still This Summer
------------------------------------------------------------

Play in the Park is an interactive children's entertainment series held in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. Children and their families can bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs and enjoy family friendly entertainment in a beautiful park setting. It's free! The next Play in the Park will be on Tuesday, July 30 and begins at 7 p.m., featuring Joel Tacey from Tiptop Entertainment with magic and laughter. The final Play in the Park for this year will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13 when the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum brings hands-on discovery and exploration of the natural world to East Lansing.


** Coffee & Conversation to Discuss Food Insecurity
------------------------------------------------------------

The City of East Lansing’s Human Rights Commission will host “The Impact of Food Insecurity in Our Community” at the East Lansing Farmers Market, 280 Valley Court on Sunday, July 21 from noon-2 p.m.

Food insecurity is defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Feeding America as the lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life. It is increasingly considered a critical public health issue and is associated with numerous adverse social and health outcomes.

No registration necessary to join the conversation!


** Sidewalk Sales Downtown This Weekend

From Thursday, July 18 to Sunday, July 21, visit downtown East Lansing for some special deals. Woven Arts Shop, 325 Grove St.; SBS Bookstore, 421 E. Grand River Ave. and Quark! Gifts, 549 E. Grand River Ave. are participating in a Shop Hop Sidewalk Sale! ** Celebrate Parks, Recreation & Arts in July
------------------------------------------------------------

East Lansing’s Parks, Recreation and Arts Day coincides with the national recognition of Parks and Recreation Month, which has been celebrated annually during the month of July since 1985. This year’s theme is “Where You Belong.” Use the City’s bingo card (https://www.cityofeastlansing.com/DocumentCenter/View/14952/bingo-card-flyer-PDF) (PDF) to learn more about all the City of East Lansing’ Parks, Recreation and Arts Department has to offer for community members to explore, engage and enjoy this month and throughout the year. Activities include discovering a new park, noting there are 34 of them in the City; trying a new fitness class at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road; or checking out the latest art installation in the alley near Beggar’s Banquet, 218 Abbot Road. Community members are invited to celebrate Parks, Recreation and Arts Day at the East Lansing Farmers Market (ELFM) on Sunday, July 21. Parks, Recreation and Arts Day at the ELFM will include activities suitable for all ages, including musical performances by Lansing singer/songwriter Tania Watt from 10:30 a.m.-noon followed by R&B, jazz and rock performed by the Groove Doctors from 12:30-2 p.m. The ELFM is held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Sunday from the beginning of June through the end of October in Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court. ** AECT Presents "SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition"
------------------------------------------------------------
All-of-us Express Children’s Theatre (AECT) will open “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition” on Friday, July 26. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 26 and Friday, Aug. 2, as well as at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28 and Aug. 3 and 4 in the Albert A. White Performing Arts Theater at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC), 819 Abbot Road. Tickets for “The SpongeBob Musical” are $9 for youth (17 and under) and $14 for adults (18 and older). Community members can purchase tickets by calling (517) 333-2580 ext. 0, visiting www.cityofeastlansing.com/allofus. or in person at ELHCC, 819 Abbot Road.

“The SpongeBob Musical” is based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series created by animator and marine science educator Stephen Hillenburg. In the musical, the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their home. SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward and the rest of the gang must come together to save their undersea world.
