GET INVOLVED
eBike Voucher Program

Our eBike Voucher Program application window is now open! The program seeks to provide qualified and approved Tampa residents with an upfront discount towards the purchase of a new eBike from a participating local bike shop. Take one for a test ride at one of four upcoming eBike rodeo events on August 19, 21, 26 or 28. Visit tampa.gov/ebike (https://www.tampa.gov/ebike) for details.

Tampa Bay Comic Convention

Expect increased traffic near the Tampa Convention Center on August 23 - 25 due to the Tampa Bay Comic Convention (https://tampabaycomicconvention.com/) . As Florida’s #1 family-friendly and fan owned comic book convention, the Tampa Bay Comic Convention offers comic books, panels, performances, toys, cosplay, art, and more.

Labor Day

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, all City of Tampa offices will be closed on September 2. No trash, recycling, or yard waste collection will take place that day.

Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta

Mark your calendars! Grab lunch from local food trucks in Lykes Gaslight Square Park on September 4 from 11 am - 2 pm.

Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together

The City of Tampa has launched Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together (https://www.tampa.gov/development-coordination/tampa-updates-its-land-development-code) , a two-year project to update the City’s Land Development Code -- the set of regulations that govern how land can be used and developed in the city. We need your feedback to move forward. Take the survey at tampa.gov/tampaforward (https://www.tampa.gov/tampaforward) and attend the kickoff meeting on September 16 at 7 pm, located at City Center at Hanna Avenue (2555 E Hanna Ave). There is also a virtual option.

Community Investment Tax

The Hillsborough County Community Investment Tax is a half-percent sales tax that was approved by Hillsborough County voters in September 1996 for a period of 30 years and it expires November 30, 2026. Its renewal will be on the November 5 ballot. Visit the Hillsborough County website (https://hcfl.gov/government/budget/budget-information/community-investment-tax) to view the ballot language, see a list of proposed projects for 2026-2041 in the City of Tampa and throughout Hillsborough County, and learn more about how the funds are distributed.

Job of the Week

The Technology & Innovation Dept is hiring a Senior Applications Programmer (https://www.jobapscloud.com/Tampa/sup/bulpreview.asp?b=&R1=240802&R2=000963&R3=003) to perform and oversee applications programming and systems analysis work - related to financial work. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in computer programming or systems analysis.

Meet Billy Townsend, a Construction Inspector I in the Development & Growth Management Division. He has worked for the City of Tampa for almost four years and he enjoys working with contractors from all over the city.

What’s something unique about your job that others wouldn’t know? I was trained in the US Navy SEABEES as a Construction Inspector (1990).

What’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? Seminole Heights General Store. They have really good food and are very friendly.

What are you reading right now? I’m in the process of reading the Holy Bible from cover to cover.

What’s your favorite movie? Snow White and the Huntsman. I enjoy movies based on the middle ages.

What's your favorite meal to cook? Smoked venison. I love the taste! Of course, a beer or two helps along with the process!
