Happy New Year! For many, January represents new beginnings and commitments. You might resolve to read more, learn more, spend more time with loved ones or take more time for yourself. Happy Year of the Snake! Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the year in many Asian cultures that traditionally measure months using phases of the moon. By the Chinese zodiac, this coming year is associated with the snake. Celebrate the New Year with fun activities for the whole family.

If you've been to the Library recently, you may have noticed our new collection of board games. We have a mix of family games, party games and strategy games. We have "Scrabble", "Ticket to Ride", "Clue", "Betrayal at House on the Hill", "Catan" and more.
Find the board games next to the Information Desk, in front of the Holds Shelves. You can borrow these at the self-check machines. Have a board game hold ready? Ask for it at the Accounts Desk.

Winter Reading Program

Pick up your Winter Reading prize!
Have you finished logging your Winter Reading books? Come to the Library during the month of January to pick up your prize. Read and log 3 books to complete the challenge.
Adults who complete the challenge can pick up a $5 Friends of the Library gift certificate from the Information Desk. Adult finishers will also be entered into a grand prize drawing for a $75 gift card to Leigh's Favorite Books.
Children and teens who sign up can pick up a free book from the Children's Desk. Finishers can also enter a prize drawing for their age group. Prizes include toys, crafts, gift cards and more.
The grand prize winners will be contacted after Friday, Jan. 31.

The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library's bi-monthly book sale will take place in our Program Room, to the right from the Library entrance. All sales help sponsor library programs and promote literacy. Use your $5 Winter Reading gift certificate at this sale.
Members enter an hour early on Saturdays. Membership is $10 for individuals per year, or $200 for a lifetime membership. Membership fees are tax-deductible.
Sunday is the $5 Bag Sale. Buy a bag for $5 and fill it with what fits.

Pandan, a tropical plant from Southeast Asia, gives the waffles their green color. It is available as paste or extract at many Asian grocery stores. Not a fan of coconut?
