El Camino Real Construction Updates

El Camino Real Night

Caltrans’ contractor is continuing progress on the El Camino Real repaving project and have substantially completed the concrete work at the corners of cross streets where the replaced curb, gutter, curb ramps, and in many locations, new bulbouts (wider sidewalk space at corner intersections) can be seen.

The contractor has been paving in Palo Alto for the past two weeks and is continuing south towards Mountain View, where they expect to be in Mountain View by mid-October. A majority of the paving work is taking place at night.

The final striping work would follow in 2025, as the weather allows. Once complete, the project will reallocate space previously used for on-street parking and provide a new protected bikeway throughout the corridor.

The improvements in Mountain View also include green bike lane paint at conflict zones, high visibility crosswalks, and new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons at Pettis Avenue, Bonita Avenue, and Crestview Drive.

For more information, visit MountainView.gov/ElCamino [ http://www.mountainview.gov/ElCamino ].
