A YEAR END MESSAGE FROM MAYOR CHEN As the year comes to an end, it is important that we reflect on the growth of our relationships, not just within our community, but worldwide. This year has been so important for the City as we hosted and visited our friends from all over the world. TUSD TEACHERS AND VISITORS FROM SINGAPORE Mayor Chen had the pleasure of meeting a delegation of early childhood educators visiting from Singapore recently. Having met some of our Torrance Unified School District educators and students at the Invention Convention Global Competition, they were truly impressed with the achievements of Torrance students in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) and hoped to learn more about our educational practices and how TUSD continues to nurture these amazing young minds. ESTABLISHING FRIENDSHIP CITES IN TAIWAN In March, I took a personal trip to Tainan, Taiwan and met with Mayor Huang Wei-Che. We signed a Friendship Cities Agreement to make a joint effort to encourage economic development and provide support for business investments. I also met with more than 20 businesses to get a sense of their economic infrastructure and ideals. Thank you Mayor Huang Wei-Che and the City of Tainan. Shortly after my trip to Tainan, I traveled to Changhua, Taiwan, and met with Mayor Shish-Hsien Lin and his colleagues. While in Changhua, we signed another Friendship Cities Agreement in a joint effort to enhance and implement cultural, educational, athletic, technical, and youth exchanges and collaborations. These meetings create unique opportunities to share on a global scale. A JOURNEY THROUGH KASHIWA Our journey in Kashiwa unfolded like a beautifully woven tapestry, showcasing the warmth and hospitality of our Sister City. From the warm welcome at Narita Airport to the enchanting exploration of Kashiwa City Hall and the University of Tokyo Kashiwa Campus, each day was filled with meaningful experiences. We became integral parts of the Kashiwa community, symbolizing growth through a tree planting ceremony, unveiling our City's name on Kashiwa streets, and participating in joyous celebrations with the local community. The Tokyo tour on the final day added the perfect grand finale to this extraordinary journey, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The Torrance delegation's journey in Kashiwa was not just a celebration of the past 50 years but a testament to the enduring bond between our Cities. It is a bond built on cultural exchanges, warm receptions, and meaningful interactions that will continue to thrive for years to come. Thank you Mayor Kazumi Ota for the hospitality and experience of a lifetime. ESTABLISHING FRIENDSHIP CITIES IN KOREA Following our visit to Kashiwa, Japan, the Torrance City Council and I traveled to Hwaseong, South Korea to sign a Friendship Cities Agreement with the hopes of exploring and promoting economic exchange, and possible collaborations, boost tourism related opportunities, and providing support for business investments. Hwaseong welcomed us with open arms and treated us with immense warmth and amazing hospitality. We met with Mayor Jeong and had wonderful discussions about business developments, and opportunities for both of our Cities. Thank you to Mayor Jeong and the City of Hwaseong. We cannot wait to visit again.   SAVE THE DATE: MAYOR'S COMMUNITY MEETING Wednesday, February 28, 2024 | 6 - 8 P.M. LeRoy J.
