J Line will better connect communities from U District to Downtown 

Transit riders, more upgrades are on the way. On the heels of the start of RapidRide G Line service [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/2024/08/29/rapidride-g-line-madison-st-construction-complete-service-starts-september-14/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] on September 14, the RapidRide J Line project [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/transit-program/transit-plus-multimodal-corridor-program/rapidride-roosevelt?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] is kicking off soon, with construction starting up in October. The J Line will connect Downtown Seattle with Belltown, South Lake Union, Eastlake, and the University District. 

This transformative project will ensure smoother, more reliable bus trips to destinations between light rail stations and greater accessibility via upgraded sidewalks, curb ramps, street crossings, and signals. You’ll see new protected bike and scooter lanes take shape and new trees get planted. We’ll also replace essential infrastructure including a new water main and install fresh pavement along Eastlake Ave E. Transit access will be maintained during construction.

New murals and lighting activate Downtown Seattle

More than 30 new murals have come to life in and around Downtown Seattle, from Belltown to SODO to the Chinatown-International District. Created by skilled artists, the murals are a new public amenity we want people to discover, engage with, and enjoy.

Earlier this month, new lighting was strung above 3rd Ave in Downtown Seattle, between Stewart and Virginia streets. This effort is part of Mayor Harrell’s Downtown Activation Plan [ https://www.downtownisyou.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], including a focus on making 3rd Ave a welcoming front door to our city that connects neighborhoods and serves residents, workers, tourists, and businesses. 

We expect this new lighting could spark more interest from building owners and tenants who may wish to pursue similar lighting and enhancements along 3rd Ave. Keep an eye out as more elements of the Downtown Activation Plan are added in the weeks and months ahead.
