The Tampa Police Department Fleet is going electric, thanks to an almost $1 million federal grant secured by U.S. Representative Kathy Castor. The grant will help purchase up to thirteen new electric police vehicles - a big step forward toward reaching our sustainability goals.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity 2024 International Conclave

The City of Tampa is proud to host the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity 2024 International Conclave (https://www.tampa.gov/events/omega-psi-phi-fraternity-2024-international-conclave/134741) at the Tampa Convention Center from June 27 – July 3. Thousands of attendees and supporters are expected to attend, so anticipate additional traffic in the Downtown area during this time.

Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta

Boom by the Bay is Back!

Boom by the Bay (https://www.tampa.gov/Boom) at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park is Tampa’s premier Independence Day celebration on July 4 - featuring family-friendly activities, live entertainment, an Apple Pie Throwdown, and a fireworks display. The event is free and open to the public to enjoy. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

New Commercial Grant Funding

The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board approved $8.49 million for commercial grants (https://www.tampa.gov/news/2024-06/cra-approves-85-million-grants-commercial-property-owners-introduces-legacy-credit) through the end of Fiscal Year 2024. The grant funds will benefit commercial property and businesses owners across ten CRA areas. In addition, long-time commercial property owners can benefit from the new “Legacy Credit,” which rewards long-term property owners making improvements by lowering upfront out-of-pocket costs.

The Technology & Innovation Department is hiring an Applications Systems Analyst (https://www.jobapscloud.com/Tampa/sup/bulpreview.asp?b=&R1=240618&R2=000972&R3=003) to analyze data systems and manual systems for data processing applications. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and one (1) year of experience in business systems or an equivalent combination of education.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Kirstin Albert, Communications Coordinator for the Tampa Convention Center. She has worked for the City of Tampa for almost two years and she enjoys that every day is different, depending on what events are happening in the building.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? There are so many amazing restaurants, it’s hard to just pick one! I love all the vegan options, and my favorites are Florish for their delicious vegan pizza, Bella’s Italian Café for their amazing plant-based pastas, and Vegan International Co. for their gyro platters, chopped cheese subs, and milkshakes!

What’s your favorite holiday? I love Halloween, I look forward to getting out my 12-foot skeleton and decorating our whole house with spooky stuff. I also like to get really elaborate with my costumes, my favorite was dressing as a Na’vi from Avatar with blue body paint. Last year, my husband and I put a spin on the summer blockbuster movie weekend “Barbenheimer”, where he was Barbie and I was Oppenheimer. It was hilarious, we even won a costume contest!

What reality show would you want to be on? I have been watching all of Gordon Ramsey’s shows and would love to be on Hell’s Kitchen, except I don’t want to cook -- I want to be one of the customers in the restaurant eating and commenting on the food!

What do you like to do in your free time? My favorite thing to do is spend time with my 9-month-old son, Aiden. We have so much fun cuddling in our hammock, playing with our pets, reading, listening to The Wiggles, and going for walks.

What are you reading right now? I love to read, and I just started reading Wool in the Silos series. I’m also determined to read every Stephen King book, because he’s from my home state of Maine and he’s an incredible storyteller.
