*The City Council will Discuss Additional Tree Regulations on November 20
*At the November 20 meeting [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/document/249618/ ], the City Council will discuss and give direction on additional regulations to further preserve, protect, and enhance Kenmore’s tree canopy. The proposed tree regulations provide added protections by increasing the requirements for tree density on new developments, decreasing the number of trees property owners can remove each year, always requiring replacement whenever significant trees are removed, requiring that all trees on a property must be retained unless construction won’t allow it, and establishing a tree fund for instances when replacement is infeasible.

Since April 2021, the City Council has been taking action to protect Kenmore's trees. In 2022, new tree regulations were adopted, including requiring permits for tree removal and revising tree retention requirements. In October 2023, the City Council adopted an exceptional tree ordinance [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/FileStorage/A6CC3A51179049FFB53D843A5F07F70B-Attachment%201.pdf ], which protects native and very large trees that because of their size and age are invaluable to the environment. Upon adoption of the ordinance, removal of exceptional trees within the city is punishable by fines up to $2,500 per inch in diameter at breast height with minimum a penalty of $10,000 and a maximum of $150,000. Learn more. *Veterans Honored at This Week's City Council Meeting
*On Monday evening, the City Council recognized Veterans Day and invited local Veterans to join the beginning of the meeting. The Council honored all Veterans with a proclamation, [ https://kenmore.civicweb.net/document/249660/ ] and attendees gathered to view and celebrate the new Veterans Memorial Bench [ https://www.kenmorewa.gov/home/showimage?id=4461&t=638358175515434211 ] at City Hall. A very special thank you goes out to the Kenmore Heritage Society [ https://kenmoreheritagesociety.com/ ], Suzanne Greathouse, and a group of community Veterans, who researched options, visited existing memorials, designed the bench, and raised funds for the project. Next time you are at City Hall, take a moment and check it out. While sitting on the bench you can view the flags and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
