To promote sustainability awareness, our Annual 3R's Art & Poetry Contest asks local students to submit art and poetry inspired by the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle). The Solid Waste Department recently celebrated the 2024 contest winners by unveiling their art that will be displayed on our solid waste trucks for a year.
GET INVOLVED
Proposed Solid Waste Rate Adjustment Community Meetings

The City of Tampa Solid Waste Department invites you to participate in a community meeting to discuss proposed rate adjustments. Due to the increased costs over the last decade, a solid waste rate adjustment is needed to continue providing critical services to our Tampa community. An adjustment to the solid waste rates will allow the department to maintain current levels of service, provide financial stability, and make the investments needed to ensure that the waste disposal and collection needs of Tampa’s residents and businesses are provided for now, and in the future. We value your participation in this important discussion and look forward to hearing your feedback at the community meeting. For more information, contact the City of Tampa Solid Waste Department at (813) 274-8811 or visit tampa.gov/solidwasterates (https://www.tampa.gov/solidwasterates) . EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Ron Carrion, a Fleet Manager in the Logistics & Asset Management Department. He has worked for the City of Tampa for seven years, and enjoys that every day is different in his position and he finds fulfillment in making a difference, where their actions resonate across every department. “Without our trucks, Solid Waste collections stall; absent our equipment, road paving halts. Witnessing firsthand the repercussions of a missed pickup in Solid Waste, I understand how these effects ripple throughout all departments and their respective duties. By resolving challenges and ensuring equipment functionality, we empower city departments to deliver essential services to our citizens. This collective effort underscores why the City of Tampa is an exceptional place to reside,” he said.

Who is your favorite music artist? One of my favorite music artists is twenty-one pilots. Their music is not only catchy and energetic but also carries deep and meaningful lyrics that often touch on themes of mental health, self-discovery, and personal struggles. Additionally, their dynamic performances and engaging stage presence make for an unforgettable concert experience. Overall, twenty-one pilots' unique sound and thought-provoking lyrics resonate with me on a personal level, making them one of my favorite music artists.

What is your favorite meal to cook? One of my culinary passions is making pizza from scratch. It's one of the few dishes I feel confident cooking, and there's something immensely satisfying about crafting a delicious pizza with fresh ingredients and homemade dough. From kneading the dough to layering on the sauce, cheese, and toppings, the process is both meditative and enjoyable.

What is your dream vacation? Exploring Rome and visiting the Vatican is a dream of mine. The rich history, stunning architecture, and cultural significance of these iconic landmarks make them top destinations on my travel bucket list. From marveling at the intricate artwork of the Sistine Chapel to wandering through the ancient ruins of the Colosseum, there's so much to see and experience in this historic city. Plus, the opportunity to witness the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica and soak in the atmosphere of Vatican City would truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

What reality show would you want to be on? I have a keen interest in buying and collecting various items, so participating in a show like Storage Wars would be a thrilling experience for me. The excitement of bidding on storage units and uncovering hidden treasures resonates with my passion for discovering unique items. Being able to turn this hobby into a profession by exploring storage units and finding valuable items would be an exciting venture that combines my love for collecting with the thrill of the hunt.

What are you binging on Netflix right now? Currently, I've been binge-watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
