暁の祭典、浜降祭。威勢の良いかけ声と神輿とともに海へ入っていく光景は、茅ヶ崎の人々に夏の到来を知らせます。一方でその由来や意義については謎が多い行事でもあります。
長年、海への信仰を研究してきた神奈川大学日本常民文化研究所の鈴木通大氏をお招きして、日本各地のハマオリ行事から茅ヶ崎の浜降祭を読み解きます。
なぜ人々は海へ祈りを捧げたのか？茅ヶ崎の浜降祭とはなにか？をわかりやすく解説します。
