Storm Preparedness Community Workshop Next Wednesday To help you prepare for storm season, join your neighbors and attend the Storm Preparedness Community Workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 5 - 7 p.m. at the Palo Alto Art Center. This open house style workshop offers tools and resources to be storm ready from staying informed and signing up for emergency alerts to home preparedness tips, sandbag demos, capital improvement updates and more. Chat directly with City staff and get your questions answered. Veterans Day Recognition Event The City of Palo Alto and Stanford University are pleased to host a local Veterans Day Recognition Event once again on Monday, November 11 at 3 p.m., located at MacArthur Park at 27 University Ave. Join us in recognizing the service and contributions of the Veterans of our U.S. Armed Forces. Plus, gain a Council actions summary and track upcoming tentative Council discussions. 1501 Page Mill Road Incident Update Several residents shared appreciation for the neighborhood meeting on November 1 and a summary was issued following the meeting. While the spill itself was not a serious incident, it provides a valuable opportunity to review circumstances, explore changes to prevent reoccurrence and improve our response and communications to incidents in the future. Be Well Winter Respiratory Virus Period Mask Mandate: Santa Clara County Health Order requires face masks while you’re in patient care areas of healthcare delivery facilities. From November 1 through March 31 each year, regardless of your vaccination status, masks are required. It’s not too late, CDC recommends flu and COVID-19 vaccinations this season. Community Connections Series - Magical Bridge Foundation: Palo Alto provides high quality community services and programs through its many libraries, parks, community facilities, recreation programs, art and cultural centers, with special consideration for its vulnerable populations. We also rely on service providers and nonprofit partners to deliver and enhance community services. This new series celebrates our partners who help us build community and foster connectedness. The first in our series highlights the Magical Bridge Foundation, offering new details on ways we are extending our partnership for our whole community to be magical, have fun, connect together and play. This recipe yields two loaves, so consider gifting the second to a loved one instead of a store-bought present. 🎃 Family Resources FOPAL Book Sale: Find your next treasure among thousands of used books, music, and more at this month’s Friends of the Palo Alto Library Book Sale. Proceeds benefit the library’s programs and collections. The sale is Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 at the Cubberley Community Center. Celebrate Diwali: Drop by the Festival of Lights: A Diwali Celebration with henna, arts & crafts, and dance performances on Sunday, November 10 at 2 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center. Enjoy the Arts: Visit the Cubberley Artist Studio Program’s Open Studios for art, performances, and food on Saturday, November 9 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cubberley Community Center. Diabetes Awareness Month: Learn tips from the National Institutes of Health on managing and preventing diabetes. Join a virtual event from the American Diabetes Association. Check out a book with recipes and meal planning guides for those with diabetes and pre-diabetes.
