The RapidRide J Line upgrades Route 70 with improved RapidRide service levels, enhancing bus speed, access, reliability, and station amenities. The project includes protected bike lanes, a new water main, new paving on Eastlake Ave E, and upgraded sidewalk and curb ramps.

Tree Pruning and Removal

Starting as soon as Monday, November 18, we will begin pruning and removing trees throughout the project area to provide clearance for construction vehicles working on the project. Pruning will also provide clearance for traffic when lanes shift around work zones. Ahead of starting this work, we will place no parking signage and remove them as we complete work at each location. Crews will begin work at the north end of the project. This work is anticipated to take crews one week to complete. The RapidRide J Line project will remove 92 trees in areas where we will widen sidewalks and install new bus shelters. As part of the tree mitigation plan, we will plant approximately 190 new trees. Water Main Replacement on Eastlake Ave E

In recent weeks we've been meeting with neighbors and answering their questions. One of the biggest concerns has been water main work and potential water shutoffs.

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is undertaking essential work to replace the aging water main on Eastlake Ave E as part of the RapidRide J Line project. The replacement aims to enhance fire safety flow and ensure compliance with current seismic standards. To complete this crucial work, crews will need to briefly shut off water service, more than once, to customers along the project. SPU works with customers to determine the least disruptive time to shut off water service. We will provide an early update ahead of this work, and SPU will notify customers directly through flyers or door hangers. Rest assured; SPU implements stringent water quality checks to keep your water safe post-outage.
