The City of Tampa Mobility Department has added a second paving machine to its fleet, effectively doubling the City's in-house paving capacity! This workhorse, combined with an expanded team, will allow us to pave streets even faster and at a lower cost than hiring an outside firm.

This paver is already smoothing out the streets, but it needs a name. Put on your thinking caps and submit your name idea at tampa.gov/newpaver by September 27, 2024.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Devester David, a Building Maintenance Supervisor I at the Tampa Convention Center. He has worked for the City of Tampa for over 18 years. He most enjoys the training aspect of his managerial position because he loves to help his team be the very best at what they do.

What's one of the craziest days you’ve had on job? About 10 years ago, we had a reception in the West Hall. This was one of our biggest events. I worked the B Shift and only a handful of our contracted labor showed up because they had been called in on A Shift to work. The director at the time, our COO, Sales & Marketing Manager, Event Services Manager, and several other City staff got involved and the event ran seamlessly. What started off as crazy allowed us the true opportunity to see TCC have a team that can and will rise to any challenge

What’s your favorite place in Tampa? I enjoy ZooTampa because there aren’t any rides that my kids are restricted to get on.

What’s your dream vacation? My dream vacation is to visit Dubai. I want to see the hotels, scenery, and convention facilities. Years ago, we were honored to have a guest services coach speak with our team about our facility and how to exceed guest expectations. At that time, TCC was a 4-star facility, and I told her my vision for cleanness was to reach to a 7-star rating. She told stories of some of her trainings at 7-star hotels in Dubai, which was where the only ones in the world existed. I would like to visit what I believe TCC will one day become.

What’s your favorite holiday? My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love the true reason and spirited meaning of the season, the lights, carols, stories and festivities, the story of the Christ child and the joy on my kids’ faces.
