Justin ・ Major Tegarty was very recently appointed as Coldstream Kingsguard Regiment Band Music Director after almost 20 years away from the regiment. He was appointed as the Coldstream Kingsguard Regiment Band Music Director.
Major Tegarty joined the Army in 1996 and spent a year at the Royal Military Academy of Music in Nellor Hall before being posted to the Kings Regiment Band of Wales.
After eight years with the band, Major Tegarty returned to the RMSM to complete a three-year bandmaster course.
He was awarded the prestigious Society of Musicians medal for conducting, composition, academic awards, and best student bandmaster. He continued his studies and earned a master's degree in conducting from the University of West London.
As Bandmaster, Major Tegarty served as School Bandmaster of the Royal Logistics Corps Band, the Royal Scottish Regiment Band, and the RMSM.
Appointed in 2015, he was musical director of the Band of the Parachute Regiment, the Band of the Rifles and the Bugle, and deputy chief instructor of the RMSM.
He completed the Intermediate Command and Staff Course （ Land ） at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham in 2022 and subsequently worked within the Strategic Center at Army HQ developing music as an Army-wide capability.
Major Tegarty traveled the world delivering music, including participating in operations in Afghanistan, leading short-term training teams and contributing to defense engagement activities in Ethiopia and Algeria, supporting the UK's global influence.
