普段はオンラインでの販売が主ですが、春夏秋冬、年に4回のOpen House の時は、誰でも予約なしで無料で入場できます。実際に目で見て手に取って、自分の気に入った蘭を購入できるだけでなく、栽培している所を見れたり、ownerや知識・経験豊富なスタッフと直接話ができます。
オーナーのAndy Phillipは7歳の時、蘭に初めて出会い、『蘭はバラとは異なり、どうして、同じ蘭という植物の種類の中で、独自にいろんな色や形があるのか？どうして、それぞれがとてもユニークで、また生態系にも大きな違いがあるのか？』と疑問に思いました。それから数十年ずっと蘭に対しての情熱、愛情を、(ヲタク精神や子供心も) 絶やさず持ち続けた結果。。。
世界的にも稀に見る特別な場所になっていました。
700,000鉢 7,000種類 以上の蘭を始めとした世界中から集めた植物や花のジャングル。
その中には、日本の蘭はもちろん、数十年も経っている古株の蘭や、環境破壊などにより住処を失い絶滅危機にあるような種類も栽培されています。
Retail shop ではなくWorkIng nursery ですので、狭い温室など、車椅子では難しい所もありますが、ジャングルの奥深くへいかなくても、入り口付近の樹齢80年以上の良い枝振りのSycamoreのドームの下だけも十分楽しめますし、野外に沢山ブースがあり、満喫できます。
近くには Self Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine、素晴らしいBeach、surf spots がありEncinitas でのんびりとゆくり時間がながれる一日を十分満喫できます。また色々忙しくしたい方にはOceanside や Carlsbad で買い物や観光、Torrey Pine でハイキングやゴルフ、それとEncinitas はサンディエゴからも遠くないですよ。
オレンジカウンティから南へ約55マイルほど下る価値は有ると思います。車が無くても電車でロサンゼルスから来た人も何人かいました。
