As we continue to recover from Hurricane Milton, we have a few updates to share to keep you informed, as well as some tips and reminders to help in the recovery efforts.
DEBRIS AND TRASH PICKUP
It’s been one week since the storm and our crews have already picked up over 1 million pounds of storm debris.
As we continue our recovery efforts, in addition to our city trucks, you’ll begin to see contractors working to help us clear the piles of debris left behind by Milton. Crews will be making multiple passes throughout the city until it’s all cleaned up.
You can help expedite the yard waste collection process by doing the following:
* Bag and bundle yard waste
* Separate yard waste and building materials
* Place debris at the curb
* Do not place debris in the street, on top of storm drains, or in public spaces
Stay up to date on debris clean-up by visiting orlando.gov/debris. (https://www.orlando.gov/Storm-Recovery-Milton/Hurricane-Milton-Debris-Removal-Updates?mc_cid=a0b3eeaede&mc_eid=UNIQID)
WATER USAGE
Following the storm, we experienced an increase in water flow by nearly 3 times the amount that normally enters the city’s sanitary sewer system.
Thanks to the collective actions of the community to reduce water use, we have been able to manage the increased water flow caused by the storm and ease the stress on our wastewater system.
While water conservation is always important, we are pleased to announce that it is now safe to resume normal water usage.
LAKE ALERT
The City of Orlando has lifted the lake alert for all City of Orlando lakes impacted by Hurricane Milton, except Lake C. All other lakes have passed inspection and are now safe for swimming, boating, and fishing. Public boat ramps are also open for use.
Lake C remains closed for recreation due to ongoing water quality concerns. We'll provide updates on its reopening on the city's Lake Alert website (https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Forlando.gov%2Flakealerts&data=05%7C02%7Channah.yucht%40orlando.gov%7C597da5ee19074c50aafb08dceeaf2bc9%7C7594da9b294b4acf913bd159ae921564%7C0%7C0%7C638647683338675592%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Krj9rZzDSsu0sObmInxCk0LpCsaQ8QRd%2FmwWb19nXFk%3D&reserved=0&mc_cid=a0b3eeaede&mc_eid=UNIQID) .
