** Pulse Memorial Update
------------------------------------------------------------
Today, we outlined details on the next steps in the process to develop a permanent memorial, which is to create a working Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee. The committee will consist of members representing the families, survivors and other community stakeholders, with the goal of selecting a conceptual design for the memorial by the end of this year.
If you are interested in being part of the committee, please visit our website at pulseorlando.org/committee (https://www.pulseorlando.org/Memorial/Participate?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=d8ae2884da-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-d8ae2884da-80648119&mc_cid=d8ae2884da&mc_eid=UNIQID) to access the application and view more details about this process.
Applications to participate in the committee will be due on Sunday, June 23.
** Providing services for all
------------------------------------------------------------
This week’s spotlight is on The Center Orlando, a non-profit organization that has dedicated the last 45 years to serving members of the LQBTQ+ community through advocacy, education, information and providing resources to improve overall health and well-being.
The Center Orlando’s history dates back to November 27, 1978, when the nonprofit organization Gay Community Services was created to offer safe spaces for meetups. As the group expanded and created important partnerships, it has become one of Orlando’s most beloved and respected not-for-profits through its promotion and empowerment of the LGBTQ+ community. Their programs and services extend to all ages and ethnicities, and specialize in topics including mental health counseling, harm reduction, transgender services, testing, career planning, immigration, scholarships and more. Over the years, The Center Orlando has also played a key role in bringing our community together, including after the Pulse tragedy in 2016, creating and continuously managing the Orlando United Resiliency Services.
If you’re interested in learning more or using any of the services offered by The Center Orlando, visit thecenterorlando.org (https://thecenterorlando.org/?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=d8ae2884da-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-d8ae2884da-80648119&mc_cid=d8ae2884da&mc_eid=UNIQID) , or head to 942 North Mills Avenue.
