Killer Queen formed back in June 1993. Their first public shows were at London University, following in the footsteps of the real Queen, who had played their first shows there 21 years earlier. By 1995, Killer Queen’s UK popularity had grown to such an extent they secured a residency in London’s Strand Theatre, attracting nationwide BBC coverage – the first tribute to have a show in the West End. Even though the band had no connection to Queen officially, their reputation continued growing both in the UK and abroad. In 1999, they returned from a tour of and Europe and Russia for an awards ceremony in Leicester Square, hosted by Suggs from Madness. He announced they had won the award for “Worldwide Best Tribute Band.”

Mandy Patinkin has been fortunate to carve out a varied career including theater, the concert stage, film, television, and as a recording artist. In his 1980 Broadway debut, Mandy won a Tony Award for his role as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, directed by Hal Prince, and was nominated in 1984 for his starring role as George in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Sunday in the Park with George. Mandy’s other stage credits include: Compulsion, Paradise Found, The Tempest, Enemy of the People, The Wild Party, Falsettos, The Secret Garden, The Winter’s Tale, The Knife, Leave It to Beaver is Dead, Rebel Women, Hamlet, Trelawney of the ‘Wells,’ The Shadow Box, The Split, Savages, and Henry IV, Part I. In 1989, Mandy began his concert career at Joseph Papp’s Public Theater in New York City. Since then he has toured (and continues to) his various solo concerts (Dress Concert, Mamaloshen, Celebrating Sondheim, Diaries, and Being Alive) across North America, in London’s West End, through Australia and New Zealand, as well as on Broadway and off-Broadway.

Continuing the long-standing commitment to bringing Jiří Kylián's work to Houston, the program adds another of his works to the Company repertoire with the premiere of Kylián's Overgrown Path. Set to the deeply moving score from composer Leoš Janáček, the work was created in 1980 for Nederlands Dance Theater in dedication to the legendary choreographer Antony Tudor. Making its Houston Ballet debut, Stanton Welch's Bespoke was created on San Francisco Ballet in 2018. Set to a series of Johann Sebastian Bach's violin concertos, the ballet explores dancers' love for their artform and the fleeting cycle of being a performer, with motifs of time present throughout the piece. Yotam Silberstein, one of the leading jazz guitarists of his generation, has gained acclaim for a sound rich in bebop and blues as well as musical folklore from South America, North Africa and the Middle East, giving his music an increasingly global thrust. His mature compositional gift and gripping interpretive finesse are vividly represented on his 2022 release Universos and his 2020 outing with Argentine multi-instrumentalist and composer Carlos “Negro” Aguirre titled En el jardín. He is a member of the John Patitucci Trio (heard on the acclaimed album Irmãos de Fé), has toured extensively with legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter Ivan Lins, and played with characteristic fire and taste on Monty Alexander’s GRAMMY-nominated Harlem-Kingston Express Live! as well as David Sanborn & Marcus Miller’s Time and the River. He has worked in bands with some of the greatest figures in jazz including George Coleman, Charles McPherson, Jimmy Heath, James Moody and Roy Hargrove, and has toured with his own groups all over the world in the most prestigious festivals and venues including the Tokyo, Umbria and North Sea Jazz Festivals as well as Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center and more.
