** Children's Cultural Concert Series Kicks off This Weekend, Runs Next Three Saturdays
------------------------------------------------------------

The first concert in the Children's Cultural Concert Series will be held tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 17) from 11-11:45 a.m. at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. The theme is Black Musical History and will feature Rodney Page, a former music teacher and Detroit Pistons DJ.

Next weekend (Saturday, Feb. 24) will feature Martha Russell for Indigenous Cultural History. Russell is a teacher and artist whose teachings come from the Caddo/Hasinai Neepah tribe of Louisiana and the Anishinaabe of Michigan.

The following weekend (Saturday, March 2) in honor of National Reading Month, the East Lansing Public Library will host a special library story time beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a family fun show featuring Kevin Devine, with sing-alongs and dancing.

** City Offices Closed for Presidents Day on Monday;
Early Voting Centers Will Be Open!
------------------------------------------------------------
Several City offices will be closed in observance of Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 19, including City Hall, 54-B District Court, the East Lansing Public Library, the Prime Time Seniors Program and the Department of Public Works (DPW). Additionally there will be no bulky item pickup this Monday.

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road will be open on Presidents Day during its regular hours from 6 a.m.-9 p.m.

****The City Clerk's Office is operating two Early Voting Centers (EVCs) for the Presidential Primary beginning Saturday, Feb. 17 and running through Sunday, Feb. 25, including Presidents Day. They are open each day from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The EVCs are located at 405 Grove St. and in the STEM Building on Michigan State University's campus, 642 Red Cedar Road.****

** Assessor's Review of 2024 Property Tax Values
------------------------------------------------------------

Property owners are advised that the 2024 Assessor’s Review is taking place now through Friday, March 1 via phone, email and Microsoft Teams. While assessment notices are going out in the mail to property owners and are expected to be received in homes during the last week of February, property owners can view their 2024 assessed and taxable values online now at bsaonline.com (https://bsaonline.com/?uid=138) .

** Prime Time Seniors Program Welcomes Alesha Williams as New Director
------------------------------------------------------------

The City of East Lansing is pleased to announce that Alesha Williams has been hired to serve as the new director of the City’s Prime Time Seniors Program. Williams started in her new role on Monday, Feb. 12.

“I have a passion for art and creativity, and I love using these to enrich the lives of others,” said Prime Time Director Alesha Williams.

Prime Time is a nationally accredited enrichment program for community members who are 55 years and older. Learn more about Prime Time activities and membership at www.cityofeastlansing.com/primetime.


** New Yemeni Coffee Shop Moka & Co. Opens in Downtown East Lansing
------------------------------------------------------------

The East Lansing Downtown Management Board (DMB) welcomed Moka & Co. to 565 E. Grand River Ave. in a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Moka & Co. specializes in Yemeni coffees and teas as well as Middle Eastern and American pastries, such as basbousa, sabaya, milk cake, muffins, croissants and cheesecakes. All of Moka & Co.’s coffees are organic with the coffee beans sourced from local farmers and co-ops in Yemen.

Moka & Co. is open Sunday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
The East Lansing Public Library (ELPL) will host a retirement party for beloved Community Development Specialist Phyllis Thode on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 3-5 p.m. at the ELPL, 950 Abbot Road. Come celebrate and wish Phyllis the best!


** ELPS Kindergarten Information Night is Feb. 29
------------------------------------------------------------
East Lansing Public Schools (ELPS) will host Kindergarten Information Night on Thursday, Feb. 29 (Leap Day) from 6-7 p.m. at MacDonald Middle School, 1601 Burcham Drive. The evening will include information about Before and After Care, food services, transportation and much more. Enrollment for kindergarten or Young Fives should be completed online at www.elps.us (https://elps.us/) no later than March 11, 2024.
