Residents may use vehicle pass to visit property but asked to respect no-media policy on 8/8/24

Mayor Richard Bissen has announced that in connection with the scheduled activities on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, he has requested all construction/utility work be stopped for the following areas:

• All secured burn zone areas

• All previously secured burn zone areas

• All highway and by-pass areas between Puʻukōliʻi Road and Olowalu Store

• All areas adjacent to current and previously secured burn zones

Work being done by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on the interim housing projects at Kilohana and Kala‘iola, and related road work being done by the State Department of Transportation, will be allowed to continue on August 8, 2024, due to the urgent need for housing for wildfire survivors.

The stop-work policy is based on the impacts of anticipated heightened traffic for remembrance activities, as well as securing the areas out of respect for those who have been affected by the August 8, 2023 wildfires.

In conjunction with the stop-work policy, media representatives will not be granted access to the impact zone on Thurday, Aug. 8, 2024. Residents with re-entry vehicles passes will be allowed to visit their property but are asked to not escort media into the zone on the 8th. Checkpoint personnel may verify that all passengers have a direct connection to the property being visited.
