City of Toronto to provide update on Don’t Block the Box measures to keep traffic flowing

On Monday, Mayor Olivia Chow will be joined by Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie (Scarborough-Rouge Park), Chair of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee, and other elected officials to share an update on traffic management measures to help prevent drivers from blocking intersections, also known as Don’t Block the Box.

Date: Monday, September 16

Time: 11 a.m.
Location: Northwest corner of King Street and University Avenue

Parking information: Limited Green P parking is available on Pearl Street. Paid parking is also available at 200 King Street West: https://maps.app.goo.gl/B74jg6FVZDJvjqDu8. Please consider public transit or alternative transportation where possible.

Don’t Block the Box is part of the City of Toronto’s Congestion Management Plan which aims to reduce traffic congestion, make travel more efficient and improve safety for all road users.

“Blocking the Box” occurs when a driver enters an intersection on a green or amber signal when there is no reasonable prospect of being able to clear the intersection before the light changes to red. This disrupts traffic flows, causes transit delays and creates serious safety risks.

Toronto is home to more than three million people whose diversity and experiences make this great city Canada’s leading economic engine and one of the world’s most diverse and livable cities. As the fourth largest city in North America, Toronto is a global leader in technology, finance, film, music, culture, innovation and climate action, and consistently places at the top of international rankings due to investments championed by its government, residents and businesses.
