Community Development Block Grant

Each year, the City of Auburn receives federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support affordable housing and community development programs that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income people. This funding comes from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. In order to receive these funds, the City of Auburn develops a Consolidated Plan every five years to outline funding strategy over the next five federal fiscal years. The City has begun the process to develop it's 5-year plan and your input is valuable. Please click the link below and complete the short anonymous survey. Your feed back will help the City enormously.

Examples below will help you understand some ways the funds can be used to help the community. 

Housing

*a. Example:* Funds may be used to assist existing homeowners with
repair, rehabilitation, or reconstruction of owner-occupied units
*b. Example:* Handicapped accessibility programs such as installation of
ramps grab bars or other remodel activities
*c. Example:* Homeownership assistance such as help with down payment
or closing cost assistance for low to moderate income individuals

Other Real Property Activities

*a. Example:* Evaluation and removal of lead-based paint in
residential units
*b. Example:* Energy efficiency improvements such as weatherization
activities that include the installation of energy efficient appliances,
windows and/or doors in existing homeowners who are low to
moderate income households
*c. Example:* Buying real property to convert an existing building into a
homeless shelter or low-income rental units

Public Facilities and Improvements

*a. Example:* Installation of sidewalks, re-paving street or building a
community park in areas determined to need revitalization
*b. Example:* Building a public school, library, or recreational facility
*c. Example:* Buying or building a homeless shelter, group homes and ½
way house

Economic Development

*a. Example:* Grants to businesses that provide job training skill building
through class work
*b. Example:* Making public facility improvements such as remodeling a
library, senior center or other public facility
*c. Example:* Giving grants or loans to small businesses with less than 5
employees to cover start-up costs

Other Activities

*a. Example:* Paying for special garbage, trash and debris removal such
as a neighborhood cleanup campaign
*b. Example:* Family relocation assistance when the City buys a building
determined to be used for another public purpose and this activity
displaces existing families
*c. Example:* Providing grant to business that employ individuals from low
to moderate income households to support economic development
